Job description

The Longmeadow Adult Services Department is seeking a Cook Assistant Substitute. The position is responsible for assisting in preparation and serving nutritional meals for the congregate and home delivery meal programs.

  • On-call hours range from- Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Successful candidate must have:

  • Knowledge of relevant Massachusetts General Laws related to essential functions. Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment, meal preparation, preparing food for large groups, menu planning, and special diet preparation. Knowledge of safe food handling, food safety requirements, Massachusetts Food Service Regulations, and nutritional requirements of elderly population.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage conflict. Ability to stand and prep food. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others. Ability to use kitchen tools and knives. Ability to read and interpret food labels and nutrition information.
  • Strong communication skills, problem solving skills and customer service skills. Food preparation skills.

High School diploma or equivalent, and 1 year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience. ServSafe and allergen awareness certification required or obtained within 2 weeks of hire.

  • Salary $19.04 per hour; no benefits
