Job description

Position Title: Assistant Controller
Salary Range: $165,000 - $180,000 / annually DOE
An established and rapidly growing multifamily real estate investment firm is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee property accounting operations across a diverse New York City portfolio. This high-impact leadership role will drive the monthly close process, manage remote accounting teams, ensure financial accuracy and regulatory compliance, and partner closely with asset management to support continued portfolio growth. The ideal candidate is a highly organized real estate accounting professional with strong Yardi expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for building efficient processes within a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across multiple multifamily properties and legal entities
  • Oversee onboarding of newly acquired properties into Yardi
  • Review and approve property-level financial statements while ensuring full GAAP compliance
  • Independently review and sign off on financial reporting and regulatory filings
  • Manage and mentor a remote team of property accountants and accounting leadership
  • Oversee bank reconciliations, security deposit reconciliations, tax reconciliations, and intercompany accounting
  • Partner with Asset Management to analyze operating results, variances, and Net Operating Income (NOI) performance
  • Develop, improve, and maintain financial reporting and analysis using advanced Microsoft Excel
  • Serve as the primary Yardi system expert and support ongoing process improvements
  • Prepare and review New York City regulatory filings, including RPIE and Tax Commission reporting

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (U.S.-based accredited institution required)
  • 8+ years of real estate accounting experience
  • At least 1-2 years of NYC multifamily accounting experience
  • Previous management experience leading accounting teams
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • 2-3+ years of hands-on Yardi ERP experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
