Job description

Who We’re Looking For

At ScalePad, we hire thoughtful builders who want their work to matter. Our roles are designed for people who thrive on driving impact, see ambiguity as an opportunity, and believe that raising the bar is a team sport.

We don’t bring people in to run playbooks. We hire people who want to rewrite them. And in this role, you’ll get to do that, while shaping the future of managed services for our global partners. (That’s what we call our customers.)

What is ScalePad

At ScalePad, we’re building more than software; we’re building confidence and clarity for the people who manage the technology businesses rely on every day.

Our mission: help MSPs evolve into MVPs (their clients’ most valuable partner). Our tools turn them from reactive service providers into strategic advisors through a consistent, scalable Customer Success motion.

Our product suite unifies risk insights, client planning, and service delivery so MSPs can have smarter conversations, show clients their value, and grow their revenue.

But our purpose goes beyond our software. We’re creating a workplace where curious, growth-minded people can do their best work, where ideas are valued, progress is shared, and everyone belongs. Together, we’re creating a future where MSPs don’t just keep businesses running, they help them thrive. We believe that when our partners succeed, we all do.

With offices in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Phoenix and a global-first mindset. ScalePad has grown into a category leader trusted by 12,000+ partners across 60+ countries. We’ve been recognized for our products and corporate culture by MSP Today, G2, and Great Place to Work™, to name a few.

About The Role

As Corporate Controller, you will own ScalePad's accounting function end to end: financial reporting, tax and audit, treasury, payroll, and equity administration. This is a hands-on role leading a small team: you will be in the work, not just reviewing it. Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll be a true partner in strategic financial decision-making.

This is a critical seat, and we need a true expert to command it. Someone who trained in public practice, has run the tax calendar across borders, sat across from auditors and tax authorities, managed treasury, and closed complex multi-entity books. If you know the ins and outs of Canadian and US corporate tax, sales and use tax, SR&ED, transfer pricing, credit facilities, and cross-border structures, this role was written for you.

The complexity is what makes this seat interesting: a private-equity-backed, multi-entity group spanning Canada and the US, consolidated in NetSuite OneWorld across parallel CAD and USD hierarchies under ASPE, with an active acquisition pipeline and regular reporting to our lenders and investor. You'll have a capable small team and strong external advisors behind you. Your job is to lead the function, strengthen it, and scale it.

What You’ll Own

Get ready to go beyond order-taking. Your strategic responsibilities include:

  • Financial Reporting & Consolidation. Own the monthly close and consolidation across multiple legal entities in two currency hierarchies (CAD and USD), including intercompany eliminations, delivering accurate ASPE financials on a reliable calendar for leadership, lenders, and our private-equity investor.
  • Audit, Tax & Compliance. Lead the annual external audit end to end and own the Canadian and US tax compliance calendar: corporate filings in both countries, cross-border transfer pricing documentation, multi-state US sales and use tax, GST/HST, and SR&ED. Represent the company confidently in tax-authority reviews and audits (CRA and US), directing external advisors so the work gets done right.
  • Treasury & Banking. Own cash management and forecasting across multiple banks, entities, and currencies, wire and FX execution, credit facility administration, covenant compliance, and day-to-day lender relationships.
  • Revenue & AR Cycle Management. Manage and optimize the complete revenue and accounts receivable cycle for our multi-product SaaS business, ensuring precision in revenue recognition across subscription models.
  • Payroll, Benefits & Equity. Oversee payroll across Canadian and US entities on parallel systems, support benefits renewals in both countries, and administer the equity program (cap table, stock-based compensation, and annual valuation cycles).
  • Controls, Systems & Process Improvement. Build the control environment for a scaling multi-entity group: approval matrices, delegation of authority, and documented processes. Maximize our NetSuite investment and keep improving how the function runs; you'll have license to experiment with automation and new tools.
  • M&A Integration. When we acquire, you integrate: onboarding new entities into the consolidation, aligning charts of accounts, and folding acquired operations into the close, tax, and treasury cadence.
  • Leadership & Team Development. Work hands-on alongside a small team, mentoring and developing them while building a function where knowledge is shared and no process depends on a single person.

What we’re looking for

We care about what you can do more than where you’ve done it. However, experience in the following areas will help you hit the ground running in this role:

  • This is a senior, high-trust role, so some things are non-negotiable.
  • Canadian CPA designation (Chartered Professional Accountant). CPA, CA welcomed; a US CPA alongside is a plus.
  • Public practice foundation at a Big Four or large national accounting firm, with the audit or tax depth that comes from it.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a SaaS or software environment managing multiple entities.
  • Experience owning a controllership function (or clearly operating at that level) with a small team, staying hands-on in the detail while leading.
  • Multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation in a Canada/US cross-border structure. This is the core of the role, and we'll ask about it.
  • Deep knowledge of ASPE and SaaS revenue recognition.
  • Proven track record leading external audits and managing tax compliance across jurisdictions, including US sales and use tax.

Strong assets

  • Direct experience responding to CRA (or IRS/state) reviews and audits.
  • Hands-on treasury experience: cash forecasting, banking platforms, FX, credit facilities.
  • Experience with SR&ED and other government programs, transfer pricing, and corporate insurance programs.
  • Strong NetSuite (or similar ERP) proficiency; implementation or optimization experience.
  • M&A and entity-integration experience.
  • Comfort directing external advisors (audit, tax, valuation) and knowing what to outsource versus own.

How you work

  • Meticulous and deadline-driven: closes, filings, and lender deliverables land on time, every time.
  • Calm and credible under scrutiny: comfortable being the company's voice with auditors, tax authorities, banks, and our investor.
  • An owner's mentality: you take responsibility for the whole function, document as you go, and never let a known issue sit.
  • A clear, direct communicator who can explain complex accounting and tax matters to non-accountants.

Perks

ScalePad offers our employees a blend of purpose, growth, and genuinely great perks.

  • Everyone’s an owner. Share in our success through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and RRSP matching.
  • Support for growing families. Parental leave programs are in place to support you and your family when it matters most.
  • Structured mentorship with builders. Join opt-in mentorship programs and learn directly from founders and senior leaders who’ve scaled multiple SaaS ventures and spent decades in the MSP industry.
  • Invest in your growth every year. Access an annual professional development budget to level up your skills, your career, and your impact.
  • Set yourself up with great tools. Work with brand new, top-of-the-line hardware and equipment so you can do your best work, whether you’re at home or in one of our hubs.
  • Modern ways of working. Roles at ScalePad are structured as remote or hybrid, with hub locations in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Phoenix. Specific work models are outlined in each posting.
  • Support for hybrid life. Receive a monthly stipend to help you create an effective hybrid or remote work environment.
  • Well-being and time to recharge. Take care of yourself with 100% employer-paid benefits.

This is a full-time role for those who are eligible to work in Canada or the United States. We thank all applicants for taking the time to apply, but only candidates who make it to the next stage will be contacted.
