Overview:

The Assistant Controller will provide accounting support to major accounting areas of HousingPlus; including general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fundraising, and key performance indicator reports. This role is ideal for individuals looking to build on their experience. It is an opportunity to grow with an established human services organization, which provides care to residents of New York.

This position reports to the Exec VP of Finance

Essential Job Functions:

General Accounting:

  • Responsible for month end close procedures, including developing and maintaining reports and files on account balances
  • Maintain general ledger accounts, create monthly close journal entries
  • Prepare complete balance sheet and income statement account analyses in a timely manner
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation of revenue accounts related to each government contract.
  • Propose and record adjusting entries with appropriate supporting documentation
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliation and credit card account reconciliation
  • Record cash deposits in bank and book interbank transfers
  • Maintain cash flow schedule
  • Responsible for Positive Pay banking review and upload
  • Support the budgeting process by preparing relative financial data
  • Review 1099 year-end forms before going out to payees and IRS.
  • Assist with audits, to include providing reconciliations, preparing schedules, and organizing files for review
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned

Accounts Payable:

  • Work as a back-up to an AP staff
  • Assist in cost allocations for all expenses

Payroll:

  • Review and reconcile federal and state quarterly 941 tax returns.
  • Work with HR for any payroll related general ledger changes.
  • Maintain key performance indicator reports.
  • Record payroll journal entries and maintain wage cost distribution

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Accounting required.
  • 7+ years of experience in accounting or related function.
  • Detail and deadline-oriented self-starter.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Highly organized, proven problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Proven, solid software skills and experience with automated accounting systems; Fund-EZ experience preferred.
