Job description

We are looking for an experienced Controller to support a non-profit organization in Charlottesville, Virginia through a Long-term Contract assignment. This role is primarily onsite and will lead core accounting activities, including financial close, general ledger oversight, and cash reconciliation. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain accurate reporting and effective financial controls in a hands-on environment.
Responsibilities:
• Direct monthly and annual closing activities to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
• Oversee general ledger operations, including review of entries, account analysis, and balance sheet integrity.
• Perform and review cash reconciliations to resolve discrepancies and maintain reliable financial records.
• Strengthen and monitor accounting procedures that support compliance and effective internal control practices.
• Manage day-to-day controller-level accounting functions in a primarily onsite setting.
• Utilize Sage 100, Stampli, and Paymerang to support accounting workflows, payment processing, and financial oversight.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather documentation, validate transactions, and support audit-ready records.• Prior experience serving in a Controller or interim Controller capacity.
• Strong working knowledge of month-end and year-end close processes.
• Hands-on experience with general ledger management and account reconciliation.
• Proficiency with Sage 100, Stampli, and Paymerang.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain internal controls and accurate financial reporting.
