Job description

Highmark Companies is a growing family of construction, design and home-services brands including Highmark Builders, Highmark Home Services, Exteriors by Highmark, Restorations by Highmark, Ruby+Suede, and Christian Brothers Cabinets.
Behind every project is a finance function that keeps our jobs profitable, our cash flowing, and our leaders informed.
We're hiring a Controller to own that function and lead our accounting team as the company scales.
As Controller, you are the top accounting leader across all Highmark brands, reporting directly to our Chief Operating Officer. You'll own consolidated financial reporting, month-end close, job-cost accuracy, and the day-to-day accounting operations that keep six operating companies running.
Benefits
• Competitive Salary, starting at $150,000.00
• Health Insurance - Company pays 100% of employee premium
• Health Savings Account
• Dental & Vision
• Life Insurance
• Long-Term & Short-Term Disability Insurance
• 401K + Company Matching
• 8 Paid Holidays
• Unlimited Paid Time Off
• Profit Sharing
• Employee Discount Programs
• Paid Employee Referral Program
Responsibilities
Own the close: Lead an accurate, timely month-end and year-end close across all Highmark entities, including consolidations and inter-company transactions.
Deliver the numbers: Produce financial statements, management reporting, and KPI dashboards that leadership actually uses to make decisions.
Protect profitability: Own job costing and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, including identifying and resolving under-billings before they become cash-flow problems, and partner with operations to keep projects on budget and margins accurate.
Manage cash and controls: Oversee cash flow, AP/AR, payroll accounting, and a strong internal-control environment that safeguards company assets.
Own collections performance: Own AR aging and DSO performance company-wide - direct the AR pillar's collection targets and aging-bucket reporting, align with Accounting on deposits/recs/internal billing, and partner with division VPs and their Pr to resolve draw and billing issues that delay payment.
Lead the team: Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting staff; set standards, build bench strength, and create a culture of accountability.
Stay compliant: Manage sales/use tax, 1099s, and other filings; coordinate the annual audit/review and serve as the primary contact for external CPAs and banking partners.
Improve the engine: Refine accounting processes and systems (Sage 300 CRE and related tools) to increase speed, accuracy, and scalability.
Support strategic decisions: Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash-planning data, and provide the CEO and COO with clear, decision-ready financial analysis to inform the strategic decisions they own.
Requirements
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA and/or MBA preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience; prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience strongly preferred.

• Hands-on experience with construction/ERP accounting systems such as Sage 300 CRE, Sage Intacct, or comparable platforms.
• Experience owning a full-cycle close and consolidations, ideally across multiple legal entities.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort turning data into decision-ready insight.
• A proven people leader who can build, coach, and hold a team to high standards.
• High integrity and sound judgment handling confidential financial information.
