Plant Controller

Position Overview

Bondcote Performance Textiles (BPT) is a leading U.S. manufacturer of advanced coated and laminated technical textiles serving the defense, aerospace, industrial, and specialty commercial markets. For more than seven decades, Bondcote has built its reputation on engineering innovation, manufacturing excellence, and delivering mission-critical solutions where performance matters most.

Backed by private equity ownership, Bondcote is executing a transformation strategy focused on operational excellence, scalable growth, and long-term value creation. We are investing in our people, systems, manufacturing capabilities, and culture as we prepare for our next phase of growth.

We are seeking an experienced Plant Controller to serve as a key financial leader within the organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will partner closely with Operations, executive leadership, private equity sponsors, lenders, and other stakeholders to strengthen financial performance and operational discipline.

Position Summary

The Plant Controller is responsible for accounting, financial reporting, manufacturing cost accounting, treasury, financial planning, inventory controls, and operational finance.

This role requires a leader who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will use financial information to drive better business decisions, challenge assumptions, improve processes, optimize working capital, and partner closely with Operations to improve financial and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Cost Accounting & Operational Finance

  • Lead manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costing, absorption costing, labor and machine rates, and overhead allocations.
  • Maintain and optimize production costing within SAP Business One, including BOMs, production orders, routings, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Analyze labor, overhead, material, purchase price, production efficiency, scrap, yield, and other manufacturing variances.
  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality to identify root causes and develop actionable solutions.
  • Support product costing, pricing, margin analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Financial Planning, Reporting & Analysis

  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Develop financial models, executive dashboards, KPIs, and actionable reporting.
  • Analyze actual performance against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Prepare and analyze P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements.
  • Prepare executive, Board, and private equity reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and established financial controls.
  • Coordinate external audits, tax activities, and other financial compliance requirements.

Inventory, Cash Flow & Liquidity

  • Oversee inventory accounting and valuation for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Lead cycle counts and physical inventory processes and investigate discrepancies.
  • Monitor inventory reserves, obsolescence, carrying costs, and working capital.
  • Own cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning.
  • Monitor Accounts Receivable collections and Accounts Payable aging.
  • Identify opportunities to improve working capital and cash conversion.
  • Manage and support banking relationships.
  • Lead borrowing base reporting and financial covenant compliance.
  • Oversee Asset-Based Lending (ABL) requirements.

SAP Business One & Financial Systems

  • Serve as a key financial owner and subject matter expert for SAP Business One (SAP B1).
  • Maintain the integrity of financial, inventory, costing, and production data.
  • Champion continuous improvement and optimization of SAP B1.
  • Improve financial reporting automation and scalable reporting infrastructure.
  • Partner cross-functionally to improve data quality and system utilization.

Leadership & Change Management

  • Lead, develop, mentor, and cross-train members of the accounting team.
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear expectations, deadlines, financial controls, SOPs, and approval workflows.
  • Build strong partnerships across Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, and Human Resources.
  • Lead and support process, system, organizational, and operational change initiatives.
  • Serve as a key liaison with auditors, tax professionals, lenders, and other external financial partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.
  • 5โ€“8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Controller, Plant Controller, Assistant Controller, or comparable plant finance leader.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with SAP Business One (SAP B1).
  • Strong manufacturing cost accounting experience, including standard costing, inventory accounting, production costing, and manufacturing variance analysis.
  • Strong financial reporting experience, including financial close and financial statement preparation or analysis.
  • Experience working within a private equity-owned or private equity-backed organization.
  • Experience with Asset-Based Lending (ABL) facilities, including borrowing base and financial covenant reporting.
  • Strong understanding of cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and working capital.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with strict deadlines and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Strong experience partnering directly with manufacturing Operations.
  • Experience leading or supporting organizational, operational, system, or process change.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial modeling skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, CMA, and/or MBA.
  • Experience in textiles, technical fabrics, polymer coating, chemical converting, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Multi-site manufacturing experience.
  • ERP implementation or optimization experience.
  • Experience improving financial reporting automation and processes.
  • Experience presenting financial results to executive leadership, Boards, private equity sponsors, investors, and lenders.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will bring strong business acumen, analytical rigor, executive presence, sound judgment, and an operational mindset. They should be comfortable working at both the strategic and detailed levels and able to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights.

This role is best suited for someone with an ownership mentality, strong sense of urgency, bias for action, and a hands-on leadership style. The Plant Controller must be comfortable navigating change, establishing accountability, making difficult decisions, and operating effectively in a rapidly evolving environment.

Work Environment & Location

This position is closely integrated with manufacturing operations and requires regular presence at Bondcote's manufacturing facility in Graniteville, South Carolina.

The Plant Controller is expected to work on-site approximately 3โ€“4 days per week and maintain a close, hands-on partnership with Operations and plant leadership.

Candidates should reside, or be willing to relocate, within approximately 100 miles of the facility.

Our Core Values

Success at Bondcote extends beyond technical expertise. Our Core Values include:

  • One Team. One Goal.
  • Professionalism
  • Customer Commitment
  • Quality
  • Can Do Attitude

We are looking for a leader who is humble enough to listen, confident enough to lead, accountable for results, transparent in communication, willing to roll up their sleeves, and focused on building enterprise value rather than managing departmental silos.

If you are a high-performing finance leader who thrives in manufacturing, embraces accountability, enjoys partnering with Operations, and wants to make a meaningful impact within a growing organization, we encourage you to apply.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $110,000โ€“$115,000 annually, depending on the candidateโ€™s experience and qualifications. Placement within the range will be based on the depth and relevance of experience, particularly in manufacturing finance, cost accounting, and the other key requirements of the role.
