Job description

Overview
Cordoba Corporation is a leading engineering and design firm based in California. We are seeking an Assistant Construction Manager to join our Facilities Sector. The Assistant Construction Manager fulfills the role of regular on-site support for the Construction Manager. The individual fulfilling this role should already have a foundational proficiency in technical construction knowledge and related management (e.g. understanding construction documents, scheduling, assessing contractor change order requests, cost management, etc.).
Responsibilities
  • Provides technical and engineering support to the construction manager. Coordinates with District staff, contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, consultants and other construction support staff.
  • Participates in, and often runs, design or construction meetings.
  • Makes field checks on construction activity to determine compliance with job specifications, plans, established district standards, and Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements.
  • Reads and interprets construction plans and shop drawings.
  • Assists in preparing written materials including correspondence, reports, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Supports development of weekly/monthly status and photo reports for project team.
  • Reviews, estimates, negotiates, and processes construction change orders and construction field orders.
  • Reviews and enforces construction and professional services contracts.
  • Manages and directs contractors and outside consultants, including review of invoices and contractor applications for payment.
  • Facilitates resolutions of construction and design issues.
  • Coordinates with architects for timely and accurate responses to requests for information, submittals, construction change documents, etc.
  • Generates and distributes meeting minutes.
  • Confirms contractor's maintenance of record drawings prior to monthly progress payments to the contractor.
  • Maintain project files in both electronic and paper format and utilizes Procore.
  • Manages the review of submittals for conformance to plans and specifications.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in construction management or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience (or equivalent working knowledge / experience).
  • Coordinate multiple construction projects simultaneously
  • Communicate effectively and maintain productive working relationships with District staff, contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to lead meetings, communicate directly with owners and project stakeholders, inspectors, contractors, and architects
  • Ability to work outdoors at active construction sites in varying weather conditions, and to navigate uneven, unpaved, or obstructed terrain, including stairs, scaffolding, and areas under construction
  • Ability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, and steel-toed boots, and to remain alert to moving equipment, vehicles, and other site hazards
  • Excellent communication skills; interpersonal, written and verbal
  • Strong detail orientation and time management skills

Salary Range: $115,000-$125,000 yearly
