Position Summary

The Sales Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth by proactively soliciting, booking, and managing meetings, conventions, banquets, theater rentals, and special events for the Grand Junction Convention Center and Avalon Theatre. This position develops relationships with local, regional, and national organizations while identifying new business opportunities that increase venue utilization and economic impact. The Sales Manager serves as the primary contact for prospective clients throughout the sales process, from initial inquiry through contract execution, while collaborating closely with operations, marketing, food and beverage, and event management teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences. Success in this position requires a highly motivated sales professional with strong relationship-building skills, experience in hospitality or public assembly venues, and a passion for generating new business.

This role pays an annual salary of $57,784-$67,000 and is commission eligible.

Benefits for Full-Time roles: Health, Dental and Vision Insurance, 401(k) Savings Plan, 401(k) matching, and Paid Time Off (vacation days, sick days, and 11 holidays).

About the Venue

Oak View Group proudly manages several premier entertainment and event venues for the City of Grand Junction, Colorado. Located in the heart of downtown, the Grand Junction Convention Center and the historic Avalon Theatre serve as the region's hub for meetings, conventions, performing arts, concerts, community events, and private functions. The Grand Junction Convention Center features over 24,000 square feet of flexible meeting, ballroom, and exhibit space, accommodating events ranging from intimate meetings to conferences and banquets for up to 2,670 guests. The Avalon Theatre is a beautifully restored 1,095-seat historic theater hosting concerts, comedy, family entertainment, corporate events, film screenings, lectures, and community performances throughout the year.

Responsibilities
  • Generate new business through proactive prospecting, sales calls, networking, trade shows, and industry events.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with meeting planners, convention organizers, promoters, corporate clients, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and community partners.
  • Respond to inquiries, qualify leads, prepare proposals, negotiate contracts, and close business.
  • Conduct facility tours showcasing the capabilities of both the Grand Junction Convention Center and Avalon Theatre.
  • Actively pursue local, regional, and state association meetings, conferences, banquets, and entertainment rentals.
  • Identify opportunities to increase utilization during traditionally slower periods.
  • Maintain an active sales pipeline and consistently meet established sales goals and revenue targets.
  • Prepare accurate contracts, event estimates, and client correspondence.
  • Collaborate with Event Management, Food & Beverage, Marketing, Production, and Finance to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records within the venue's CRM and booking systems.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual sales reports, forecasts, and pipeline updates.
  • Participate in industry trade shows, client networking events, and familiarization tours.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging business opportunities.
  • Assist in developing annual sales strategies and revenue forecasts.
  • Work closely with the General Manager to establish priorities, evaluate performance, and achieve departmental objectives.
  • Support client retention efforts while continually expanding the venue's customer base.
  • Represent Oak View Group and the City of Grand Junction with professionalism and exceptional customer service.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of increasingly responsible sales experience for an arena, convention center, sports franchise, hotel, or other similar public assembly or hospitality facility, including supervisory responsibility.
  • Bachelor's degree or better from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Ability to work event nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Has a strong track record of building relationships and generating new business.
  • Excellent organizational skills, leadership skills, and customer service skills.
  • Enthusiastic and positive thinker.
  • Strong PC and data processing skills; working knowledge of MS Word and Excel, as well as database management software.
