Job description

Color Guard Instructor

Montgomery County Public Schools has an opening and is accepting applications for a Color Guard Instructor position that is available for the 2026-2027 school year at Christiansburg High School.

The marching band color guard instructor will work with the Director of Bands, instructional staff members and students to ensure a positive experience for students and successful public performances. These efforts will be accomplished through summer instruction (prior to the start of the school year), after-school rehearsals, weekend events and performance events. The color guard instructor shall enforce and adhere to the policies, rules and guidelines of Montgomery County Schools and the band program to which they are associated.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 21 or over
  • Must be experienced working with marching bands and color guard.
  • Experience in the various sub groups of the guard unit (flags, rifles, sabres, dance, etc.).
  • Experience in composing and choreographing routines for the various color guard units.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions.
  • Proven ability to carry an assignment to its completion.
  • Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks associated with the duties and responsibilities listed below.
  • Certified music teacher, current college music education major or demonstrate a strong applicable background preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a coach or participation in the sport at the high school or college level
  • Current CPR certification
