Monday-Friday, 8am -5pm

POSITION SUMMARY

To provide quality service to medical providers and patients in a customer service-oriented environment. The medical assistant is responsible for rooming patients after arrival for their scheduled appointments. Will assist the nursing staff and providers during examinations and assist with any notations in the charts. Will assist medical staff with other medical procedures when necessary and assist patients with medication issues. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, and administering medications as directed by provider.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Obtains vitals and rooms patients for providers, documenting chief complaint, HPI, medical, surgical and social histories, and current medications
  • Assists providers during exams and procedures as needed and performs tasks such as removing sutures and changing dressings on wounds
  • Prepares and administers medications as directed by provider
  • Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physicians' instructions to patients
  • Authorizes drug refills and provides prescription information to pharmacies
  • Performs general office duties such as answering telephones, prioritizing phone messages, pharmacy calls, and phone triage.
  • Schedules patient procedures and educates on pre-procedure instructions and prep
  • Tracks and obtains all hospital procedure/pathology reports weekly for physician review
  • Scans and records information such as op reports and test results in medical records
  • Cleans and stocks exam rooms, sterilizes instruments and disposes contaminated supplies
  • Assists with clean up in the team room at end of day; secures PHI, locks all necessary cabinets; checks refrigerator temperatures; counts narcotics/controlled substances (if applicable)
  • Tracks Quality Indicators on all patients who have had a colonoscopy and follow ups for procedures by entering patient reminders
  • Reviews immunization history and inputs into data into RX Preceptor and VSAS systems
  • Coordinates with designated staff to order medical, lab, or office supplies and equipment
  • Participates in clinic process improvement activities and team meetings to ensure efficient operations
  • Assists with covering other IM & GI Medical Assistants’ absences as needed
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Performing other duties as assigned


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Certificates & Licenses:

  • Certified Medical Assistant or RMA (Required)
  • Medical Assistants who recently graduated from a Medical Assistant training program must obtain CMA/RMA within 60 days of employment


Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience:

  • One to two years medical office experience preferred
  • EHR experience preferred (we use eClinicalWorks)
  • Microsoft Office experience a plus
Bi-lingual candidates strongly considered
