Job Summary
THIS IS A PART-TIME, NON-BENEFITED POSITION OPEN TO MATRICULATED, FULL-TIME UNDERGRADUATE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH STUDENTS.
Undergraduate Studies is committed to creating opportunities to create meaningful impacts through transformative undergraduate experiences. To assist undergraduate students in building professional skills and knowledge, we are hiring part-time Student Office Assistants to greet and assist visitors in person or over the telephone and provide general office support to academic advising and career coaching offices. We are looking forward to working with people who have the following personal attributes: initiative, maturity, approachability, dependability, flexibility, friendliness, ability to work well with others and strong communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Receives, greets and directs visitors to appropriate person or office.
  • Answers telephones, providing assistance and directing students and guests to the correct person or office.
  • Available to work in person a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 20 in-person hours per week.
  • Ability to keep confidential information.
  • Helps students to schedule appointments and arranges for meetings, as needed. Direct students to appropriate resources.
  • Work closely with and assist academic advisors or career coaches in their assignments.
  • Assists with general office needs, including word processing, data entry and internet searches.
  • Report any issues within the departmental space; arranges for service calls as needed.
  • Be willing to expand this role and take on new responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A current University of Utah undergraduate student with familiarity with University of Utah policies, procedures and systems.
  • Strong work ethic, with excellent writing and creative problems-solving skills.
  • Be able to relay complex information to a variety of people while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential student information.
  • Able to work both independently and part of a team and able to maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues at all levels of the University.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
