Job description

Sub Classroom Teacher Assistant
 
The Sub Classroom Assistant provides temporary, as needed classroom support when the regular Classroom Assistant is absent. The Sub Classroom Assistant assists the classroom teacher with student supervision, classroom routines, learning activities, materials, transitions, and other duties assigned by the teacher. The Sub Classroom Assistant is expected to follow the classroom teacher’s established procedures and contribute to a safe, orderly, and Christ-centered learning environment. The Classroom sub assistant will be reporting to the Classroom Teacher and Elementary Principal. All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and drug screening. 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Assist the classroom teacher with daily classroom routines, activities, and transitions
  • Help greet and supervise students at arrival and throughout the school day.
  • Assist the teacher with preparing and distributing classroom materials as needed.
  • Support student learning activities by circulating among students, monitoring engagement, reading to students, assisting with centers, and providing appropriate encouragement and assistance.
  • Assist with classroom organization and light housekeeping, including maintaining clean work areas.
  • Help supervise students during snack, recess, lunch, Chapel, special programs, field trips, and other activities as assigned.
  • Assist with student line-up, dismissal, and preparation of materials or papers to be sent home.
  • Follow the classroom teacher’s procedures for classroom management and student discipline.
  • Support the teacher in maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment.
  • Assist with student hygiene and bathroom routines when appropriate and as directed by the teacher.
  • Follow all school safety procedures when supervising students in the classroom, playground, and other areas of campus.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and families. Questions or concerns from parents should be referred to the classroom teacher.
  • Work cooperatively and professionally with teachers, administrators, and other staff members.
  • Demonstrate Christian character and serve as a positive role model for students.
  • Maintain punctuality and professional appearance appropriate for a school environment.
  • Attend required staff meetings, devotions, or training when scheduled during the substitute assignment.
  • Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the faculty/staff handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or administration.
QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in a school, childcare, church, or similar setting preferred.
  • Ability to follow directions and classroom procedures.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teachers and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality.
  • Dependable, punctual, patient, and professional.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and Christian values of the school.

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER
The Sub Classroom Assistant is expected to demonstrate Christian character, integrity, patience, kindness, professionalism, and respect in interactions with students, families, and staff. The Sub Classroom Assistant should support and uphold the school’s Christian mission, values, policies, and expectations.
