Detailed Description
The Tech I/II position focuses on the installation of network hardware infrastructure in both educational and professional settings. This is primarily an INSTALLATION role, so it is crucial that candidates thoroughly understand the roles and responsibilities outlined below before applying. While this position offers a great entry point into IT networking, it is highly demanding. We emphasize the importance of fully grasping the expectations to ensure alignment across the team.
This position is based in Houston TX, and candidates must reside within a 1-hour commute of the job sites. Our technician teams are currently engaged in a significant 2-3-year collaboration project in the Austin area, and we are seeking skilled collaboration technicians to join us. We take pride in our strong employee engagement and are actively looking for a candidate who will be an excellent fit for our team.
Requirements of Job:
  • Effective Communication: Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Follow Directions: Ability to take direction from on-site supervisors/leads and act appropriately.
  • Punctuality: Must be consistently on-time for work. If unable to attend, must notify the designated supervisor at least one hour in advance.
  • Dress Code: Must wear pants and a Netsync shirt at all times during installations.
  • Driver's License: Must possess a valid, non-expired driver's license.
  • Background and Drug Screening: Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
  • Age Requirement: Must be 18 years or older.
  • Team Player: Must be able to work collaboratively with teammates in a professional manner.
  • Reliable Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites.
  • Flexible Hours: Must be able to work flexible hours, including:
    • 4 PM - 12 AM
    • 8 AM- 5 PM
  • Work Hours: This job may involve long working hours with minimal breaks.
  • Availability: After device cutover, day-1 support may be required, and the individual must be available and on standby for these engagements.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to squat, bend, and reach without limitations.
  • Documentation Comprehension: Must be able to understand and follow deployment documentation as a guide for installations.
  • Commute: Must be able to drive at least 1 hour to job sites daily.
  • Work Environment: Must be able to work in hot environments and endure the associated conditions.

Skills and Experience:
IT Experience Required
Required Technical Skills
  • Required Skillset: Experienced in telecom circuit provisioning, resolving issues, and executing port and jumper moves with precision. Proficient in managing cabling runs and working with 66/110 blocks and punch-down blocks. Skilled in using advanced telecom tools and test equipment, including volt-ohmmeters, butt-sets, and toners. Demonstrates expertise in system-level troubleshooting and excels at communicating detailed troubleshooting protocols and incident reporting procedures to technical teams, ensuring adherence to best practices and operational excellence.
  • Phone Installation: Proficient in installing end-user phone devices across various campus settings, including desks, offices, furniture, and other designated locations.
    • Removal and/or installation of phones
  • Removal and/or installation of headsets
  • Removal and/or installation of paging equipment
  • Removal and/or rack installation of Cisco Voice Gateways
  • Removal and/or rack installation of Avaya PBXs
  • Assist in documentation of existing PBX equipment using Netsync standard practices
  • Removal and/or rack installation of Avaya PBXs
  • Port Migration: Ability to perform port migration from old devices to newly installed switches.
  • Cisco Knowledge: Familiarity with Cisco platforms, including device operation and functionality.
  • Cable Management: Proficient in managing RJ45/11 cabling at end user locations ensuring all cables run to new phones have been neatly tidied up and out of the user's way.
  • Installation: Capable of drilling into drywall, concrete, brick, etc. to install phones on walls
  • Site Survey: Participate in site survey activities, document findings and assist consultants in post site survey quality control.
  • Cabling: Skilled in connecting new ethernet cables from UPS to newly installed switches and documenting switches and port numbers.
  • Height Comfort: Comfortable working on ladders daily to install devices 6-15 feet high.
  • Safety and Security: Ability to install devices safely and securely, adhering to Netsync installation documentation.
  • Communication: Courteous and professional mannerism when interacting with client representatives. Escalate to supervising Engineer
  • Accountability: Transport and properly dispose of deployment refuse after installation. Take personal ownership and accountability to meet deadlines and maintain punctuality

Cabling Infrastructure (Preferred but not required)
  • Cable Management: Proficient in cable management techniques.
  • Troubleshooting: Able to tone out cables, troubleshoot ports, and restore appropriate devices online.
  • Fiber Uplinks: Experience in troubleshooting fiber uplinks and testing/validating connectivity for newly installed devices.
  • Professional Direction: Ability to follow directions professionally and ensure devices are fully operational before leaving the site.

Tools for Efficiency
  • Installation Role: As this is an installation job, tools are required for conducting work on customer sites.
  • Essential Tools: Team members should have at a minimum, Phillips screwdrivers, snips, etc.
  • Optional Tools: While not required, cable testers/toners, butt-set testers, crimpers, and drills are a plus.

Minimum Qualifications/Technical and Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree.
  • CCNA certification or any other Cisco certification are a plus.
