POSITION TITLE: Chief Engineer 

REPORTS TO: Assistant General Manager / General Manager 



POSITION SUMMARY 


The Chief Engineer is primarily responsible for the overall maintenance of the hotel’s building, grounds, and operational systems. This role oversees equipment, mechanical/electrical systems, and ensures compliance with safety and security protocols. The position also involves training staff, managing maintenance issues, and supporting asset management to enhance guest experiences.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Maintain maintenance standards for both guest rooms and public areas, following company and franchise guidelines. 
  • Train maintenance personnel in all aspects of property upkeep and provide basic training to other staff members as needed. 
  • Review and resolve maintenance problems, complaints, and work orders, prioritizing and scheduling assignments accordingly. 
  • Ensure property and equipment are maintained safely, with all repairs made per manufacturer specifications. 
  • Uphold the integrity of the hotel’s safety and security programs, particularly related to HazMat, Bloodborne Pathogens, SDS, and OSHA compliance. 
  • Maintain the hotel’s pool, ensuring cleanliness, appearance, and chemical balance while completing maintenance logs. 
  • Function as an independent mechanic, analyzing problems, identifying solutions, and implementing repairs to a high standard. 
  • Respond to emergencies, acting as needed to protect guests, staff, and the building’s systems. 
  • Monitor fire alarm and life safety systems, ensuring full understanding of operations and handling emergencies appropriately. 
  • Solicit bids from contractors, evaluate proposals, ensure compliance with specifications, and verify valid liability insurance. 
  • Maintain building exterior, including grounds and landscaping, ensuring a presentable and safe environment. 
  • Maintain thorough maintenance logs, inventory, and requisition parts and supplies as needed. 
  • Implement and maintain a preventive maintenance program, ensuring ongoing upkeep of the property. 
  • Perform or assist with periodic cleaning projects as scheduled. 
  • Support energy management programs to optimize resource use. 
  • Assist other departments as needed and perform other related duties as assigned by management. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 


  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally. 
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods. 
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Prior experience in hotel maintenance or a similar role is preferred, with strong technical skills in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
