Position Overview:

As a Assistant Chief Financial Officer at Galen College of Nursing, you will serve as Galen’s senior finance operating leader, responsible for Galen financial integrity, accounting oversight, budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, financial planning and analysis, internal controls, audit coordination, and decision support. Reporting to the CFO, the Assistant CFO provides Galen-focused financial leadership, insight, and operating support to strengthen financial performance, support strategic planning, inform resource allocation, and ensure timely, accurate, and actionable financial reporting for Galen leadership, HCA stakeholders, and Board audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the CAO’s Galen finance partner, providing financial insight into Galen operating performance, cost discipline, resource allocation, and financial risks/opportunities.
  2. Own Galen campus and program financial analysis, including revenue trends, expense drivers, contribution performance, capital requests, facility-related economics, and investment tradeoffs.
  3. Prepare decision-ready financial materials for Galen senior leadership, the CAO, CEO, Board audiences, and HCA finance stakeholders as appropriate.
  4. Participates as a member of the College’s Senior Management Team in the financial and functional decision making processes necessary for the successful attainment of Galen’s mission and strategic plan.
  5. Maintain the company’s system of accounts and keep records for all company transactions and assets.
  6. Prepare annual budget in coordination with management and school administration.
  7. Responsible for coordinating with HCA for financial information, tax requests, and payroll among other areas as appropriate.
  8. Maintain financial reporting integrity, accounting standards, internal controls, audit readiness, and compliance with applicable parent-company policies.
  9. Support Galen strategic planning by translating operational priorities into financial models, scenarios, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
  10. Develop and lead the Galen finance team with clear roles, operating cadence, analytical discipline, responsiveness, and professional development.
  11. Perform financial analysis and other special projects as required.
  12. Ensure the team delivers the highest standard of departmental, cross departmental teamwork and customer service.
  13. Coordinate annual financial audit with outside CPA firm.
  14. Provide additional assistance to the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer, as needed.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor in Finance, Accounting or other related area required; Master’s preferred. CPA preferred.
  • Experience: Ten plus years of progressive financial management experience required.
  • Special Qualifications: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Must have excellent interpersonal, written, oral and technical skills. Must be highly organized with ability to work in a team environment, multitask and prioritize projects. Must have a passion for getting things done, and an appreciation for details. Must believe in continual process improvement, but must be ready to jump in to handle fires as they occur.  Have an ability to respect at all times the confidential nature of the work and information in the Executive’s office. Demonstrated managerial and strong organizational skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Working knowledge of SAGE100 and FRX/BizNet financial reporting software is preferred.
  • Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment: Must be able to sit at a computer desk for 8 hours per day
  • Degree of Supervision: Minimal.
