Job description

Cemetery Maintenance Worker - Seasonal

City of Newnan GA

Love working outdoors? If so, join this dedicated team of employees who take great pride in maintaining the beauty of the City's cemeteries.

Our ideal candidate will be able to operate multiple types of equipment including lawn mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and other types of landscaping and excavating equipment.

This is a temporary position, May through August, 40 hours week, non-exempt, not eligible for benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Cemetery Equipment Operator or Cemetery Maintenance Supervisor in burial site preparation; cut and remove sod from marked area; move pillar markers as necessary; load dirt onto a flatbed truck; prepare site bed as necessary; remove excavated dirt to remote site.

  • Return dirt from remote site to burial site; operate fuel-powered tamp to fix grave; re-lay sod; use hand tamp to level site.

  • Perform general maintenance and clean-up of grounds; operate fuel-powered string trimmer during growing season; rake leaves during non-growing season; operate fuel-powered leaf blower, trim bushes and trees; pick up fallen limbs.

  • Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.

  • May be required to work after-hours and weekends; assigned for call-out duty every other weekend.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in grounds maintenance including the operation of motorized equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid state driver's license required.

Background check, motor vehicle history, and pre-employment drug screen with blood alcohol test required.

Rate of pay $17.93/hour
