Summary
About the Position: Fort Myer is a 15 minute commute to/from the Arlington National Cemetery Metro Station, a 10-15 minute commute to/from the Rosslyn, Virginia Metro Station, and is accessible by bus transportation. The installation is approximately 7 miles from Washington D.C.

Duties
Help
  • Serves as a Security Assistant at the Visitor Control Center, responsible for control procedures for a multi-mission joint base military installation during all Force Protection levels.
  • Determines the location where the visitor(s) work is to be conducted and/or deliveries are to be made and if necessary, verifies the location and work with the installation's point of contact.
  • Coordinates directly the Contracting Office, vendors, service providers, security specialists, defense industry security personnel, and local subcontractors to resolve conflicts involving access requirements.
  • Operates and performs research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
  • Controls, prepares, issues identification cards, building badges, and passes that allow access of civilian, military, contractor personnel, and visitors on to the installation.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to Automated Installation Entry system (AIE).
  • Incumbent must pass a pre-employment fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS).
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires National Crime Information Center (NCIC) state certification and Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) state certification.
  • This position requires a rotational work schedule at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Visitor Control Centers, (VCC) located at both the Fort Myer and Ft. McNair duty locations which are six (6) miles apart.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Operating various computer equipment and automated systems to used in the identification and registration process of building passes; 2) Communicating with internal and external customers providing information such as guidance, policy regulation and/or standard operating procedures; and 3) Issuing badges and passes to employees or visitors allowing access to the buildings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-5).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
