Cardiac Invasive Specialist Lead – RWJBarnabas Health

At RWJBarnabas Health, the Cath Lab Lead Tech plays a critical role in patient care and operational excellence. Operating with a high level of independence, they perform complex cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures according to strict medical, legal, and professional imaging standards. They are responsible for exercising professional judgment during scans, ensuring accurate patient positioning, delivering age-specific care, and maintaining seamless workflow collaboration within the multidisciplinary cardiac department.

A typical day for a Cardiac Invasive Specialist  Lead may include:

• Prepares procedural schedules and staff assignments, clearly explains the process, and positions resources to support complex cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures
• Operates advanced imaging equipment, monitoring tools, computers, and medical record applications necessary to ensure a safe and accurate diagnostic and therapeutic procedure
• Assist physicians and clinical teams during catheterization procedures by scrubbing, circulating, or monitoring activities, while functioning as the go-to clinical resource and mentor
• Sets up sterile fields and essential interventional equipment following strict aseptic technique, handles specialized wires and stents, and coordinates preceptor orientation and training
• Calibrates, maintains, and adjusts imaging equipment, and coordinates with biomedical engineering or vendors to troubleshoot and manage preventative maintenance
• Monitors and calls out radiation safety metrics, alerting the physician and reporting high-dose instances immediately to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) as required
• Utilizes inventory management and consignment tracking systems to manage catheters, contrast media, and emergency supplies to prevent stockouts, overstock, or waste
• Demonstrates working knowledge of clinical protocols including regulatory compliance, annual tech competencies, and evidence-based practice guidelines
• Collaborates professionally in an invasive cardiac environment, leading huddles, debriefs, and quality improvement initiatives in close cooperation with leadership and physicians
• Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and the ability to assume leadership multi-task duties and function under significant time pressures

To be considered for this Cardiac Invasive Specialist  Lead opportunity:

• Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology (RT) or an approved Cardiovascular Technology (CVT) school
• Problem-solving, critical thinking, decisive judgment, collaboration, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Prior leadership, supervisory, or clinical tech charge experience with a demonstrated ability to oversee tech staff compliance, licenses, and certifications
• Extensive hands-on experience scrubbing, circulating, and monitoring within a cardiac catheterization or interventional radiology laboratory
• Active national registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent cardiovascular credentialing (RCIS) is preferred
• Active state-level radiologic technologist or relevant clinical licensing is preferred
• Available to participate in an adjustable on-call schedule including weekdays, weekends, and holidays throughout the year
• Ability to meet the mandatory on-call response time requirement and arrive within 30 minutes of a cath lab activation
