POSITION SUMMARY

Camp Falcon is seeking a seasonal Assistant Camp Director to support the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the general direction of the Camp Director, the Assistant Camp Director will be responsible for the safety of campers and assist in implementing high quality camp programming. As a member of the Camp staff, the Assistant Camp Director will be responsible for building relationships, foster achievement, and encourage belonging by providing a friendly, healthy, and fun atmosphere for all campers through development of personal growth, maturity and socialization.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure, above all else, campers are safe and well supervised.
  • Provide leadership to camp as a whole, including programming, safety and activities.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Staff Orientation schedule and program.
  • Oversee the scheduling of program activities, theme days, and family nights, in conjunction with the Activity Specialists and Counselors.
  • Oversee logistics and schedules for off-site trips.
  • Communicate performance standards, supervise, evaluate and motivate staff including coaching, teaching, modeling, reinforcing and assisting with difficult situations and correcting behavior.
  • Connect with staff, campers and parents, making all feel welcome and included.
  • Review regularly with Camp Director all concerns, priorities, progress, problems, reports and all matters dealing with camp and programs.
  • Oversee, effectively monitor and follow all safety guidelines associated with camp and all program areas.
  • Identify and report maintenance concerns in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with family nights and special events as needed.
  • Work with Camp Director and other leadership to develop consistent communication practices and program initiatives.
  • Work in cooperation with all staff and other programs on the property.
  • Attend all staff meetings, special events and training events as scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SAFETY:

  • Attend regular staff meetings scheduled
  • Must attend and complete all required trainings.
  • At all times uphold camp safety standards. Will understand and practice risk management and disaster policies and procedures.
  • Must follow all Association Aquatics Policy Guidelines.
  • Take on designated assignments for aquatic activities. Help expedite arrival and departure from the pool (i.e. dressing rooms, etc.).
  • Follow all YMCA, ACA, and NJ Licensing standards and procedures to ensure the safest and best quality camp and to help maintain ACA accreditation.
  • Secure and submit all accident reports.
  • Report all immediate concerns to Camp Director or nearest supervisor.
  • Help to ensure supervision, safety, expedient procedures and fun activities on the bus. Lead bus songs, stories and games.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Always maintain a professional demeanor, as you are a representative of the YMCA.
  • Wear Camp T-shirt daily.
  • Maintain positive attitude, responsibility and self-motivation. Be punctual and reliable.
  • Create a positive and nurturing learning environment to instill youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Uphold GSCYโ€™s More Quality At The Y principles at all times.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum five years of experience working at a camp or related experience working with children in a leadership capacity
  • Must be able to independently lead, plan, and actively participate in a variety of activities
  • Experience in supervision
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Excellent communication skills. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
