Job description

Description This is a VOLUNTEER position in the City's Summer Recreation Camp Program, assisting a Camp Counselor in planning and implementing recreation activities for a group of children. Counselors In Training assist in planning activities such as games, sports, arts and crafts, special events, etc. Volunteers in this classification are taught the basics of becoming a counselor, i.e

group organization, supervision and recreational activities, basic first aid, safety measures, etc. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Summer Recreation Program Supervisor. Examples of Duties Assist camp counselors in the daily recreation activities of a group of approximately 26 children.

Assist in the planning and implementation of assigned special events and sporting activities. Monitor and provide encouragement for a safe camp atmosphere. Participate in all camp activities, special events, 4th of July program and assist in arts and crafts projects.

Assist in the performance of routine janitorial duties. Performs related work as required and as directed. Typical Qualifications Some knowledge of the rules and conduct of a variety of sports and games.

Knowledge of rules and regulations to be enforced. Ability to work with various age groups of children. Ability to understand and follow instructions and to complete work assignments correctly.

Ability to work a flexible work schedule to accommodate the camps needs and participate in special events during the summer program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Must be 15 years old by first day of summer camp, with experience working with children (i.e., babysitting, church nursery, etc.)

Recreation experience or "participation" in a summer recreation program or equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. LiveScan Fingerprint Process Incumbents in this job class are required to undergo a Level 2 Background Screening as required by the State of Florida. The screening includes a photograph, fingerprint-based searches of criminal records nationally, and is performed using the electronic LiveScan process.

Applicants under 18 must include a notarized Emergency Medical Authorization form with their application. Work Environment
