Position Summary

The Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of all building systems at The Travis. This includes HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems, ensuring all equipment operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable standards.
This role requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to troubleshoot complex systems, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance to support consistent building performance in a luxury high-rise environment.

Key Responsibilities

Building Systems & Maintenance

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all major building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems (BMS) 
  • Monitor and maintain equipment such as chillers, boilers, pumps, and domestic water systems to ensure consistent performance 
  • Complete service requests promptly and professionally, maintaining a high standard of quality and resident experience 
  • Perform routine inspections of mechanical rooms, equipment, and common areas to identify and address issues early 
  • Execute preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life 
  • Maintain accurate service logs, equipment records, and compliance documentation 
  • Assist with system testing, commissioning, and ongoing performance optimization 
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and control operating costs 
  • Coordinate and oversee vendors and contractors, ensuring work meets quality and safety standards 
  • Support capital projects, system upgrades, and ongoing building improvements 
  • Manage inventory and ordering of maintenance supplies 
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable local and state regulations 
  • Support fire and life safety systems, including inspections, testing, and documentation 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment 
  • Work closely with onsite leadership to prioritize service requests and operational needs 
  • Support team training and share technical knowledge as needed 
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours maintenance and emergencies

Qualifications

  • 5–7+ years of experience in multifamily building maintenance, preferably in a high-rise environment 
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems 
  • Experience with BMS preferred 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents 
  • EPA certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days) 
  • CPO or additional certifications preferred 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
  • Trade school or technical training preferred; degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license required
