Job SummaryWe are seeking an Assistant Bridge Inspector to join TYLin's Bridge Sector. This position will report to the Principal Bridge. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting inspection teams, writing reports, conducting load ratings, creating Maintenance of Traffic plans, operating equipment, performing nondestructive testing, performing rehabilitation/retrofit design, andand preparing related documents (Calculations, Plans, Specifications, & Estimates (PS&E). This position has a dynamic schedule, including a mix of daytime field and office work and occasional nighttime field work. The work environment consists of a mix of on-site field and office/work-from-home. Within a team atmosphere we plan to foster your knowledge and get you prepared and well-placed to learn and grow!Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Perform DOT routine, in-depth, Non-Redundant Steel Tension Member (NSTM)/Fracture Critical (FC), access required, complex, and emergency bridge inspections. Assist the team and move into leading inspection teams on bridges with a variety of complexities.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis for the load rating of bridges or rehabilitation of damaged elements.
  • Become familiar with engineering plans and details.
  • Perform quantity take-offs.
  • Assist with project monitoring and scheduling.
  • Assist with progress reports.
  • Assist in developing production work plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Assist the Bridge Design Team by performing design calculations, analysis and detailing of bridges
  • Other assignments as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS (INCLUDING EDUCATION and/or JOB EXPERIENCE):

  • Associate's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and 2 years of experience performing bridge inspections or Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with structural emphasis, or equivalent work experience.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • 0 - 5 years of experience in bridge inspection and design.
  • Willingness to grow into Bridge Inspection Team Leader role.
  • Engineer-In-Training Certification desired
  • NBIS Certified Bridge Safety inspector preferred (Take the 1-week or 2-week FHWA/NHI Bridge Safety Inspection courses).
  • Willingness to get Society Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT) certified or current SPRAT certification is a plus.
  • Bridge Load Rating Experience and successfully passing the FHWA/NHI LRFR of Highway Bridges course is a plus.
  • Safety conscious and will be responsible for their personal safety and the safety of their fellow team members
  • Familiar with structural design and load rating software, and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications preferred.
