Job Title: Bridge Inspection EngineerJob Description

This full-time Bridge Inspection Engineer role is based in Indiana and focuses on the inspection of in-service bridges and culverts throughout the state. You will work as part of a dedicated bridge inspection team, performing field inspections, preparing technical reports, and supporting load rating and design calculations. The position offers long-term stability with an established civil engineering firm, strong exposure to state and municipal projects, and a collaborative environment that emphasizes mentorship and professional development.

Responsibilities
  • Work in teams of two to perform field inspections on in-service bridges and culverts across the state of Indiana.
  • Conduct thorough condition assessments of bridges and culverts in accordance with applicable standards and guidelines.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive bridge inspection reports that document findings, conditions, and recommendations.
  • Perform load rating calculations to evaluate the structural capacity and performance of existing bridges.
  • Identify deficiencies and recommend major work or repairs to address structural, safety, and serviceability issues.
  • Estimate costs associated with recommended repairs and major work items.
  • Prioritize recommended repairs and major work based on severity, risk, and overall need.
  • Communicate inspection findings and recommendations clearly in both written and verbal form to clients and internal team members.
  • Occasionally assist the bridge design department with structural calculations and plan development.
  • Collaborate with project teams, including engineers and technicians, to ensure consistent quality and adherence to project schedules.
  • Travel to various project sites across Indiana as needed to complete inspection assignments.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Previous bridge or transportation inspection experience.
  • Ability to obtain an Indiana Professional Engineer (PE) license within 4 years.
  • Ability to obtain INDOT certified bridge inspection certification within 1 year.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to inspection sites throughout Indiana.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear interaction with clients and team members.
  • Foundational knowledge of civil engineering principles related to bridge and transportation infrastructure.
  • Ability to perform and review structural calculations, including load rating calculations.
  • Competence with design and drafting tools such as Civil 3D.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in field environments, including on and around active transportation infrastructure.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Active Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification in Indiana.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Indiana or a strong desire and plan to obtain one.
  • Previous experience with as-built documentation on bridge projects.
  • Experience in structural engineering related to bridges and transportation structures.
  • Experience with construction inspection activities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to where the work is required within the region.
  • Interest in ongoing mentorship, professional development, and expanding technical expertise.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, supportive environment.
Work Environment

This role is based out of office locations in Indiana with frequent travel to bridge and culvert sites across the state. You will split your time between field work and office tasks, including report preparation and calculations. Field work occurs in all weather conditions and involves standard construction hours, which may include early starts and occasional long days depending on project needs. The work environment emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and professional growth, with strong exposure to state transportation and municipal projects and access to modern civil engineering and design tools.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $74800.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
