Description:


The Westfield Area YMCA is seeking an experienced Project Trades Worker to join our Facilities team. This is a hands-on position responsible for maintaining, repairing, renovating, and improving YMCA facilities to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our members, staff, and community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in multiple trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC/R, drywall, painting, and general building maintenance.
  • Install, repair, maintain, and replace building systems, equipment, and facility components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC/R systems, plumbing, electrical systems, exercise equipment, pools/whirlpools, and other facility equipment.
  • Complete daily work orders and accurately document maintenance activities using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Assist with renovation, demolition, construction, and facility improvement projects.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and construction equipment.
  • Conduct inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and equipment issues.
  • Maintain inventory, complete material and supply requests, and assist with receiving deliveries.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and YMCA standards.
  • Collaborate with Facilities staff, contractors, vendors, and other YMCA departments to complete projects efficiently.
  • Participate in required safety trainings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Be available to respond to facility emergencies, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and severe weather events, as needed.
  • Perform facility room setups, breakdowns, and other duties assigned by the Sr. Director of Facilities.


Pay: $30-$35 per hour; based on education and experience.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain and maintain a NJ State Boiler Operator's License.
  • Must obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid, Certified Pool Operator (CPO), and EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery certifications within required timeframes.
  • Minimum of 10 years of recent hands-on facility maintenance experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC/R, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance.
  • Experience operating hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform physically demanding work in various indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Must be available to respond to facility emergencies on a 24-hour on-call basis as needed.
