Job Overview

Blue Horizon Energy is seeking a skilled and dependable Traveling Equipment Operator to join our high-performing field operations team. In this role, youll support the construction of commercial and utility-scale solar projects (1MW to 25MW ) by operating heavy equipment used in site preparation, racking installation, trenching, and material handling. This is an exciting opportunity to work in the rapidly growing renewable energy industry, with the chance to travel, build specialized experience, and contribute to impactful energy infrastructure projects.

As a Traveling Equipment Operator, youll play a critical role in maintaining safe, efficient, and high-quality job site operations. Ideal candidates are comfortable working outdoors, traveling extensively, and supporting crews in fast-paced construction environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, excavators, telehandlers, pile drivers, trenchers, and compactors.

  • Support solar construction activities including site grading, pile driving, trenching for conduit, backfilling, and restoration.

  • Load, unload, and transport materials safely across job sites.

  • Assist with staging, logistics, and general site workflow to maintain efficiency.

  • Perform daily equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.

  • Ensure work is completed according to project specifications, safety standards, and timelines.

  • Collaborate with foremen, superintendents, and field crews to achieve production goals.

  • Support general construction tasks when equipment operation is not required.

Qualifications
  • Valid drivers license required; CDL preferred but not required.

  • 1+ year of heavy equipment operation experience.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Willingness to travel extensively for multi-week project assignments.

Preferred Experience
  • Solar or renewable energy construction experience.

  • Experience with pile driving or GPS-guided equipment.

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

  • Experience working on utility-scale construction sites.
