Job description

Audio Video (AV) Field Service and Systems Technician

We are hiring a full-time Senior Audio Video Technician to install, troubleshoot, maintain, and support complex integrated Audio and Video systems for clients in commercial, educational, and house of worship settings. This role requires travel to various client sites in Columbus and the State of Ohio.

The successful candidate will possess a solid technical background, deliver outstanding customer service, and be capable of working effectively both independently and collaboratively within a technical team. Proven experience in AV installations and support is essential.

Required Skills and Qualifications must include:

1. System Diagnostics and Expert Repair

  • Conduct thorough diagnostics and repairs on complex AV systems, including:
    • Audio DSP systems, amplifiers, and speakers.
    • Video displays, projectors, LCD, PTZ Cameras and related equipment.
    • Control systems and user touch panels.
    • Video conferencing technologies within Microsoft, Zoom, and Google

2. Maintenance and Configuration

  • Perform preventative maintenance and system checks to ensure optimal performance.
  • Replace and reconfigure malfunctioning equipment.
  • Keep systems current by updating firmware and adjusting system configurations.

3. Advanced Troubleshooting and Service Management

  • Efficiently manage a demanding daily schedule of multiple service calls.
  • Determine the definitive root cause of issues—whether it is hardware, programming, network connectivity, or user error—rather than simply treating symptoms.

4. Installation and Cabling Proficiency

  • Assist with project installations, including the setup of AV racks, displays, control systems, access control panels, and security cameras.
  • Perform cable repairs and re-terminations (e.g., Cat 6, BNC, speaker wire, euroblock connectors).
  • Test cabling and endpoints to ensure integrity and maintain meticulous rack organization and labeling.

5. Core Technical Knowledge

  • Systems Comprehension: Comprehensive understanding of both AV and IT systems, including the ability to accurately read and interpret technical documentation such as blueprints, signal flow diagrams, and schematics.
  • Troubleshooting and Programming: Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving device communication issues and performing programming adjustments using software from key manufacturers, including Extron, Biamp, and Control4.
  • Networking Fundamentals: Solid knowledge of basic IP networking concepts (e.g., Static vs. DHCP, VLAN awareness, IP conflict resolution) and experience with Power over Ethernet (PoE) power budgets.
  • Video Systems: Understanding of both HDMI and HDBaseT video distribution technologies.
  • Audio Systems: Experience with audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) systems and the capability to operate digital audio consoles—specifically Yamaha and Midas equipment—for Live Events.

Preferred Certifications

  • Industry Standard: AVIXA CTS certification or willing to certified within 2 years.
  • Manufacturer Specific: Certifications from leading manufacturers such as Extron, Control4, Biamp, and Shure.

Experience & Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 3–5+ years of audio-video industry in a commercial setting is required.

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and reliable personal transportation.
  • The role requires the ability to lift up to 70 pounds and 50 pounds overhead.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working on ladders and lifts.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a variety of environments, including construction sites and standard offices.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is mandatory.
