Job description

Description
The Department of Psychology at Amherst College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor from candidates with a Ph.D. in social psychology, beginning July 1, 2027. This appointment is ideal for candidates with a strong commitment to teaching and an active research program. The successful candidate will be able to develop and teach courses that include introductory psychology, statistics, social psychology, and an advanced seminar; will supervise honors projects; and will contribute to the overall academic environment of the psychology department and the college. The teaching load is two courses per semester.

The psychology department is housed in the award-winning science center, with dedicated research space for each faculty member. Amherst is committed to providing the faculty with resources to support active careers as scholars and teachers.
Candidates are asked to submit electronically to https://apply.interfolio.com/189031 a cover letter; curriculum vitae; statement describing their scholarly development and accomplishment that includes a discussion of how undergraduates will participate in their research program; statement describing their teaching philosophy and background, experience, or interests that are likely to make the candidate a strong teacher of a diverse range of Amherst students; three sample preprints/reprints; and the names of three referees whom the applicant will ask to provide letters of recommendation. Candidates should ask referees to upload letters by September 15, 2026. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in hand or have fulfilled all requirements for the degree by the start of the appointment. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is $90,000 to $125,000. The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations.
