Job description

The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Senior Multimedia Designer to support Virginia Athletics Creative Services. The Senior Designer will plan, execute, and distribute a variety of graphic design projects in the support of Virginia Athletics and all of its sport programs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Creates engaging graphic and motion design projects for both digital platforms and print applications.
  • Acts as primary designer for recruiting and special projects of all Virginia Athletics sport programs in order to dynamically service the social media and recruiting needs of those constituencies.
  • Produces marketing ad packages of multiple sizes and resolutions for use on digital platforms, included but not limited to departmental websites, apps, billboards, and email communications.
  • Maintains a database of branded elements, photos, design files, and templates for personal use and distribution to other external athletics personnel.
  • Lead on special projects including logo creation, apparel design, and large format prints utilizing vector art files.
  • Sets and maintains the brand of Virginia Athletics through all internal and external designs as Art Director, with an adherence to standards including marks, logos, fonts, colors, and sponsorships.
  • Collaborate with department photographers in the ideation and implementation of creative specialty photoshoots.
  • Organizes, leads and supervises the student assistant graphic design program.
  • Be a valuable resource for creative solutions and communications in developing and executing social and digital strategy.
  • Other duties assigned by the Assistant AD - Creative Services.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Extensive Experience in creative software (Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, and After Effects).
  • Extensive experience in large format design projects and vector file creation, editing, and usage.
  • Prior experience working with collegiate and/or professional sports programs in a creative role.
  • Proven ability to build relationships, collaborate, and work effectively with diverse constituents.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment serving numerous constituents.
  • Experience developing a creative identity and maintaining brand standards.

Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience: 2+ years relevant experience required.
Licensure. None.
Preferred Requirements
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience in creative design and art direction.
  • Prior experience in athletics creative content production .
  • Passion in creative innovation and an understanding of current creative trends
  • Experience in leading a team of creatives and/or students, establishing unit culture, and clearly communicating department standards and initiatives.

About the Position
The salary range is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position will not consider candidates who require immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
This position is located on the UVA Grounds in Charlottesville, VA. This is an exempt-level, benefited position; learn more about UVA Benefits . This is an in person position.
