Job description

At NMG Aerospace the Supplier Quality Engineer monitors, analyzes and takes action to improve supplier performance to assure the quality of the articles and services purchased while maintaining supplier compliance to all NMG requirements.

The SQE collaborates with internal cross-functional groups, customers and suppliers to define, coordinate, and deploy improvement activities utilizing project management and quality / lean tools. These activities include onsite audits, coordination of root cause investigations utilizing the 8D methodology, and First Article / source inspection.

Job Summary:

The Supplier Quality Engineer monitors, analyzes and takes action to improve supplier performance to assure the quality of the articles and services purchased while maintaining supplier compliance to all NMG requirements.

The SQE collaborates with internal cross-functional groups, customers and suppliers to define, coordinate, and deploy improvement activities utilizing project management and quality / lean tools. These activities include onsite audits, coordination of root cause investigations utilizing the 8D methodology, and First Article / source inspection.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform Quality System and Manufacturing Plan/Process/Product audits to assure robust mistake proofed processes and consistent product quality.
  • Maintain drive to closure of all Supplier CAR’s and open Quality Action Items
  • Ensure Customer & Industry flow-down requirements to suppliers and sub-tiers are adequately performed.
  • Assist in management of supplier triage situations – Line down situations and recovery.
  • Assist Supply Chain to evaluate the effectiveness of new supplier processes.
    • Perform new supplier site assessment to mitigate potential risk.
  • When engaged, ensure new part entries contain proper NMG and Customer flow downs at onset of product launch.
  • Assist in supplier triage situations, including line-down events and recovery planning.
  • Assist with review of drawing and flow down requirements on resourcing efforts within the commodity team.
  • Support/coach suppliers on advanced Quality tools (i.e., ZDP, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, etc.).
  • Support SCM Supplier Watchlist and act on poor performing suppliers.
  • Participate in divisional stand up and quality meetings to identify supplier improvement opportunities.
  • Review and address accuracy of supplier DMR’s and corrective actions.
  • Communicate supplier improvement status with value stream teams.

Additional Duties:

  • Support Supply Chain and Quality as needed.
  • Provide support for Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, companywide.
  • Other duties, reporting, special assignments, or projects as needed and assigned.
  • Must remain current with, and complete all required training as assigned.
  • Must adhere to Company Corporate EHS Policy and department, occupation, and task specific safety protocols, including but not limited to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Inspection and/or Quality Assurance experience. (Aerospace or automotive industry experience is preferred).
  • Problem solving skills/experience.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and quality systems.
  • Competency in reading/interpreting engineering drawing (GD&T experience is a plus).
  • Competency with metrology equipment.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office experience and knowledge of statistical software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Must submit to and satisfactorily pass any pre-employment screening required for employment with the Company.
  • Must take medical exams required by law, in conjunction with occupation specific activities, the physical work environment, and ongoing industrial hygiene sampling results.
  • Depending on assignment, may be required to use stairs, remain upright and/or seated for prolonged timeframes, intermittently reposition the body per various tasks performed, and use various tools and work-related supplies.
  • May be required to perform manual lifting activities, not to exceed a 40lb lift performed by one individual.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with appropriate work experience
  • BA/BS in Engineering or Business preferred.
