JOB TITLE: Accounting Assistant – Accounts Receivable

POSTING: August 12, 2026

About ISTA:

The Indiana State Teachers Association is a strong, vibrant union representing public school teachers and support staff throughout the state of Indiana. We work for quality schools, equity, and racial and social justice throughout the state.

General Description of the Position’s Function and Purpose

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Expense Reimbursement, Tax Compliance and other business functions for the ISTA Business Office. Work is performed within established procedures and guidelines with limited supervision. The qualifications listed below are those qualifications required for the position but do not encompass all those activities which may be included in the responsibilities of the job. This position is located at the ISTA headquarters office in downtown Indianapolis. This position is part of the ASO Bargaining Unit and reports to the CFO/Operations Director and Supervisor of Accounting.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience maintaining accounting records, including general ledger transactions, journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP or similar accounting software.
  • Knowledge of Concur or comparable expense reporting system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and manage deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service through responsive and professional interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, used for account reconciliations, data entry, tracking, and reporting.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain accounts receivable records and process monthly billings.
  • Administer and process Concur expense reimbursements and ISTA corporate credit card accounts.
  • Prepare account reconciliations as assigned.
  • Prepare local unions’ tax and secretary of state filings. Preparation property tax returns.
  • Assist with payroll as needed.
  • Maintain lease files.
  • Maintain corporate insurance records.
  • Administer AAA memberships.
  • Order/organize office supplies and other necessary office products.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related activities assigned by the supervisor.


Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary Range is $47,277 to $63,536 commensurate with similar years of experience.
  • The ISTA offers a rich benefits package including paid vacation and sick days, paid holidays, floating holidays, and a paid winter break; employer supplemented healthcare, dental and vision plans; a health savings account (HSA) and an employer supplemented 401K.
