Assistant Accounting Manager

Overview:

StaffBuffalo is working with a growing construction-focused organization to hire an Assistant Accounting Manager, paying $60,000–$65,000 per year. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with construction industry experience who enjoys serving as a trusted right-hand partner to the Accounting Manager and supporting critical day-to-day financial operations.
The Assistant Accounting Manager will oversee a variety of accounting responsibilities including banking activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, job costing, reporting, and employee-related administrative processes. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and strong financial controls.

This Assistant Accounting Manager position offers close collaboration with leadership, meaningful responsibility, and long-term growth potential.
This is an in-person position, in Buffalo, NY.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Accounting Manager with daily accounting payable/receivable functions and financial operations
  • Review and approve ACH payments, checks, and banking transactions
  • Manage accounts receivable activity, incoming payments, and prepare aging reports
  • Maintain monthly reporting, WIP schedules, and project financial tracking spreadsheets
  • Assist with employee benefits administration, claims processing, and HR-related filings
  • Review general ledger activity and support quarterly reporting requirements
  • Communicate with vendors
  • Coordinate calendars, manage office tasks, and contribute to special projects across departments.
  • Provide backup for payroll processing by entering data, verifying timesheets, and maintaining accuracy.
  • Help with HR functions, such as onboarding support and maintaining employee records.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
  • Construction industry accounting experience required
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and general ledger functions
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); QuickBooks or payroll system experience is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong time management and attention to detail and accuracy
  • A team-oriented mindset and a positive attitude.
