Job Description

The School of Social Work at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Senior Accounting Assistant to support Nevada Partnership in Training (NPT), a grant-funded program dedicated to advancing child welfare workforce development and training initiatives throughout Nevada. This position is located in Reno, NV.** This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. NPT has programs located in Las Vegas and Reno. This position provides advanced accounting, fiscal, and administrative support to ensure the accurate administration of grant funds in accordance with university, state, federal, and sponsor requirements.


The Senior Accounting Assistant works closely with program leadership, the School of Social Work, and outside partners to support the day-to-day financial operations of the program while maintaining compliance with grant regulations and institutional policies.

This position will perform the following duties:

  • Perform accounting, fiscal, and administrative support functions for NPT.

  • Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with sponsor, university, state, and federal guidelines.

  • Process purchase requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, travel reimbursements, and journal entries.

  • Reconcile grant accounts and investigate discrepancies.

  • Assist with budget monitoring, financial reporting, and expenditure forecasting.

  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation for audits and program reviews.

  • Prepare and compile financial data for grant reports and internal reporting requirements.

  • The position will lead as Office Manager. This position will coordinate meetings, maintain program files and records, and assist with administrative processes.

  • Coordinate with program director, School of Social Work operations, and external partners regarding fiscal transactions, administrative activities, and grant administration.

  • Assist with procurement, scheduling, correspondence, and other operational needs that support program objectives.

  • Ensure timely processing of financial and administrative transactions while adhering to established deadlines.

Essential Qualifications

  • Three or more years of applicable experience as described in the job duties and graduation from high school or equivalent education.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with experience in LMS, Nevada Box, Workday, Qualtrics, Artificial Intelligence, Canva, Microsoft Office including Excel etc and/or Grant Management: State and Federal are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 27

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
