The Asset Protection & Safety department at PetSmart includes leaders and certified practitioners focused on workplace health & safety, food safety and pet health & safety compliance; as well as asset protection and investigations across stores, distribution centers, digital and corporate offices. DC Asset Protection and Safety Business Partner

The DC Asset Protection and Safety Business Partner plays a vital role in the execution and oversight of our programs and processes related to Safety, Assets Protection, Crisis Management, and Security. This position requires effective management, leadership, collaboration, and influence with the senior distribution leadership team, and home office teams to drive business results while achieving AP & Safety KPI goals and business support. This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Asset Protection & Safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Training and Education: Provide ongoing safety training for all employees, focusing on best practices and emergency procedures.
  • Audits and Inspections: Executes regular audits and inspections of their DC to ensure compliance with loss prevention and safety policies and regulatory safety/security compliance.
  • Investigations: Executes and oversees asset protection and safety investigations.
  • Crisis Management: Incident Commander during significant business disruptions.
  • Physical Security: Conducts risk assessments and advises on security needs and aligns/evaluates support across multiple buildings.
  • Third-Party Security Management: Coordinate and lead third-party security teams.
  • Policy Development: Create and update loss prevention and safety policies to address emerging risks.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track performance metrics and adjust strategies to improve outcomes.
  • Talent Development: Development of direct reports utilizing PetSmart key competencies and developmental programs to establish a talent pipeline.
  • Innovation/Strategy: Lead network-wide business case development and large-scale cross-functional initiative leadership

The Asset Protection & Safety Business Partner is accountable for executing company strategies and fostering success by embodying our vision, mission, and values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary business partner for Asset Protection and Safety for assigned distribution centers (DCs). 
  • Activate DC leaders and key supply chain partners to promote a culture of safety and asset protection, including physical security and emergency response.
  • Partner with Inventory Control to analyze total loss data and develop strategies for damage reduction.
  • Execute safety inspections and provide support to identify and address opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure training compliance for associates, leaders, and vendors in accordance with company policies and regulations.
  • Implement accident investigation programs and conduct regular reviews of safety programs for compliance.
  • Represent PetSmart to third parties and direct their activities as needed.
  • Collaborate with external agencies, such as OSHA and law enforcement.
  • Undertake special projects as directed by the Sr. Director, Asset Protection and Safety
  • Responsible for one or more of three key pillars: People Safety, Employee Health and Safety, or Asset Protection
  • Travel may be required at times, with an expectation of some occasional overnight travel.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Autonomous and Collaborative Work: Proven success working independently and effectively partnering across functions.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Environmental Health and Safety, or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience with a track record of advancement.
  • Previous experience in logistics and retail environments is preferred.
  • OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • CSP/ASP or other safety certification.
  • OSHA 30 hour/Dept of Labor certification preferred.
  • LPC/LPQ Certification is preferred.
