Purpose

Serves as an subject matter expert for gas system inspections, inspector, and liaison regarding the protection and assurance related to the assets and infrastructure of the natural gas system.

Accountabilities
  • Damage investigations
  • Coordinate and perform potential mark-outs for large projects  
  • Serve as on-site company inspector when a third party is excavating near critical company-owned facilities
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control
  • May perform routine mark-outs whenever necessary
  • Train utility techs to perform mark-outs
  • Inspect the work of third-party excavators, including enforcement of company procedures regarding safe operation near company gas facilities
  • Accurately mark gas company facilities before and during construction
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation of all field activities
  • Assist operations supervisors in the follow-up and inspection of potential issues
  • Serve a technical resource for junior department personal
  • Lead/conduct investigations on reported incidents and record incident investigation reports outlining events so incident
  • Work closely with all department personnel to provide practical guidance and support to ensure policies, procedures, and reporting comply with federal, state, and local laws
  • Monitor, inspect, and record responses for line locate requests received from excavators, engineers, and other customers
  • Visually inspect natural gas infrastructure, ROW locations, company drawings, and other utility areas for abnormal conditions or discrepancies and notifies appropriate personnel
  • Perform duties within company policies and procedures and remain in compliance with all federal and state excavating/dig laws
  • Represent the company at planning and coordination meetings for excavations, including DOT, public works, city, and other industry-related organizations
  • Participate and may facilitate prevention education programs, including public awareness programs, as well as liaison meetings with emergency responders
  • Assist in training and directing other employees in the same or similar duties
  • Must hold stand-by duty, work shifts, holidays, weekends, emergency callouts, and occasional extensive hours
  • Responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned company vehicles and equipment
  • Demonstrate support for and adhere to the company's values, strategies, policies, and procedures and exhibits the core values of Liberty's mission statement, customer service, safety, and the company's code of conduct as an individual contributor and team member

Education and Experience
  • Basic job knowledge - specialized knowledge of specific commercial, technical, trades, or office operations areas
  • Proficiency in basic computer knowledge
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Relevant experience
  • Requires a valid driver's license by company vehicle policy
  • Prior distribution experience
  • Knowledge of company damage prevention and construction practices and procedures
  • Ability to work in multiple computer applications, including Gensuite
  • Ability to read and understand GIS/System Maps

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to stoop, bend, crawl, walk, climb ladders, and heavy lifiting. Able to lift and carry materials up to 50lbs. Ability to occasionally ascend and descend stairs and ladders is required.  Must also have keen senses of smell, hearing, vision and color identification.  Ability to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions is required.
