Job description

The Senior Fixed Asset Accountant is responsible for the accurate accounting, reporting, and analysis of the Company's capital assets in accordance with U.S. GAAP and internal policy. This role supports a centralized accounting function and works closely with cross-functional partners including Operations, Construction & Development, Information Technology, and Finance.

The position plays a key role in month-end close, fixed asset subledger maintenance, and capital project accounting, while also contributing to process improvements in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to manage competing priorities with a high degree of ownership and accountability.

The Fixed Asset Accountant reports to the Corporate Assistant Controller.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Capital Accounting & Fixed Assets:

Review capital expenditure requests to determine appropriate accounting treatment in accordance with U.S. GAAP and Company policies

Review asset-in-service requests and ensure timely and accurate capitalization and depreciation of completed projects in the general ledger and fixed asset subledger

Review asset disposal, sale, and impairment requests and record associated activity accurately in the general ledger and fixed asset subledger

Maintain the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of the fixed asset subledger across multiple entities and locations

Month-End Close, Reconciliations & Analysis

Participate in the monthly close process, including preparation and posting of recurring and non-recurring journal entries related to fixed assets

Prepare monthly general ledger and fixed asset subledger reconciliations timely, investigate discrepancies, and prepare correcting entries as needed

Perform monthly analytics and flux analysis

Audit, Compliance & Reporting Support

Assist with internal and external audit requests related to fixed assets and capital activity

Support management reporting and compliance deliverables related to capital investments and asset balances

Ensure adherence to internal controls and documentation standards

Process Improvement & Collaboration

Partner cross-functionally to improve capital processes, controls, and reporting efficiency

Proactively identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and improved data quality

Support special projects and ad-hoc analysis as assigned

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities

Follow SHM safety and environmental rules and complete required related training

Wear proper personal protective equipment as required for the task or work area

Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately

Technical and Physical Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required

Five or more years of accounting experience required

Prior fixed asset experience preferred

Solid knowledge of US GAAP

Experience with automated accounting programs and systems

Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)

Must possess proficient ability to communicate in English in oral and written format

Must have experience multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

Knowledge of and experience with NetSuite and/or Blackline a plus

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time

Ability to lift 25 pounds
