Job description

Job Title: Controls TechnicianJob Description

As a Controls Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting and enhancing the manufacturing process through the development and maintenance of control systems. You will be responsible for programming changes, installation of systems, and interfacing with vendors and integrators to ensure efficient operations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain documentation for controls applications used in manufacturing, covering both operation and maintenance.
  • Oversee and execute the installation of control systems on new and existing equipment.
  • Implement programming changes to improve and maintain manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with vendors, integrators, and plant controls personnel.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes and recommend improvements through automation techniques.
  • Train production and maintenance staff in control operations and maintenance.
  • Assist in designing new tooling for the manufacturing process.
  • Set up Cognex, Keyence, and Banner Vision system cameras for in-line inspections.
  • Train images for pattern and color recognition, making pass/fail decisions, and store images on the network.
  • Ensure timely programming of images for new model introductions.
  • Work with Controls Engineers or integrators to set up image trigger points using scanners, RFID readers, and sensors.
  • Collaborate with IS/Controls Engineers to tie results to AS400 for Auto-FTQ failures.
  • Troubleshoot image-related issues such as lighting, design changes, and missed scans.
  • Maintain system accuracy during production hours, including Assembly Booths and Welding systems.
  • Correct errors and work with operators to improve process clarity and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Check Back Auditors, Process Techs, QEs, MEs, and Supervisors to remove Check Backs as camera systems are implemented.
  • Assist MEs and Controls Engineers with procurement and project implementation.
  • Travel off-site for training on different control systems as needed.
  • Keep organized documentation and display analysis samples for reference.
  • Comply with company policies, quality standards, safety standards, and OSHA regulations.
  • Follow safety rules and maintain a clean, orderly work area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement processes.
  • Work overtime as required by production schedules.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Essential Skills
  • Troubleshooting electrical systems and PLC programming.
  • Experience with HMI, Vision systems, and Allen-Bradley PLCs (Logix500 & 5000).
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Capability to bend, twist, turn, kneel, and squat.
  • Standing and walking for up to eight hours a day, reaching overhead continuously.
  • Proficiency in using air/power/vibrating tools and strong pincher gripping.
  • Working safely around moving equipment, power tools, and industrial vehicles.
  • Repetitive use of upper extremities, possibly up to twelve hours a day.
  • High School Diploma or GED, with an Associate's degree in Automation, Electrical, or related technical field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related industrial experience.
  • Self-starter with independent work capability.
  • Experience in industrial equipment and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read, understand, and modify technical drawings.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and computer skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior experience programming/configuring Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMI, and VFDs is required.
