Assembly Specialist 

Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay: Starting at $21.00 per hour, depending on experience

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to design and deliver innovative solutions that protect the traveling public and road workers by making transportation safer, smarter, and more sustainable.

Job Summary

Hill & Smith is seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Assembly Specialist to join our Second Shift manufacturing team. This position is responsible for assembling transportation safety equipment and components while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. The ideal candidate will be able to read and interpret work instructions, use a variety of hand and power tools, and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Second Shift Schedule: Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM, with overtime as needed.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assemble components, subassemblies, and finished products according to specifications and work instructions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Use hand and power tools including tape measures, impact wrenches, torque wrenches, screwdrivers, cordless drills, grinders, pneumatic air tools, and other assembly equipment.
  • Position and fasten components such as bolts, clips, plates, frames, cylinders, cables, sheaves, and panels.
  • Inspect completed assemblies to ensure they meet quality standards and report any defects or inconsistencies.
  • Maintain production quality and efficiency while meeting daily production goals.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members to support workflow and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year of manufacturing or assembly experience preferred.
  • Experience using tape measures and a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Heavy industrial assembly experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Willingness to work overtime as business needs require.
