What is an Aspire Rotational Engineer?

An Aspire Rotational Engineer is a participant in a structured rotational program, typically offered by companies like Medtronic, aimed at recent graduates in engineering. The program allows engineers to work in several different departments or roles over a set period, usually two to three years, to gain broad experience and develop diverse technical and leadership skills. Participants receive mentorship, training, and exposure to various projects, which helps them decide on a long-term career path within the organization. This role is ideal for those who want to accelerate their professional growth and gain a comprehensive understanding of the company's operations.

What types of projects can an Aspire Rotational Engineer expect to work on during their rotations?

Aspire Rotational Engineers typically engage in a variety of projects across different engineering disciplines within the organization. These projects can range from process optimization and product development to implementing new technologies and supporting ongoing operations. The rotational structure allows engineers to gain hands-on experience in multiple departments, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and build a broad skill set. This exposure not only enhances technical expertise but also provides valuable insights into potential career paths within the company.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Aspire Rotational Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as an Aspire Rotational Engineer, you generally need a strong background in engineering principles, problem-solving abilities, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as CAD tools, data analysis platforms, and project management systems, as well as participation in rotational program training modules, is typical. Strong communication, adaptability, and collaboration skills distinguish those who can effectively integrate into various teams and projects. These skills and qualities are crucial for successfully transitioning between roles, contributing to diverse projects, and driving innovation within engineering organizations.

What is the difference between Aspire Rotational Engineer vs Mechanical Engineer?

AspectAspire Rotational EngineerMechanical Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's in Mechanical, Electrical, or related fields; internshipsBachelor's or higher in Mechanical Engineering; licensure optional
Work EnvironmentRotational programs across departments, offices, or plantsDesign, analysis, manufacturing, or testing in offices or labs
Industry UsageCommon in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace companiesWidespread across industries including manufacturing, energy, and consulting

The Aspire Rotational Engineer role focuses on gaining diverse experience through rotations within a company, often in manufacturing or engineering sectors. Mechanical Engineers typically specialize in design, analysis, and development of mechanical systems. While both roles require similar educational backgrounds, Aspire Rotational Engineers benefit from exposure to multiple departments, whereas Mechanical Engineers often focus on specific technical areas.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Electrical Engineer

Position Summary

The electrical engineer is responsible for developing and executing basic and detailed engineering for electrical systems applied to modular process packages and skids in the oil & gas, petrochemical, and power industries. The electrical engineer will combine strong technical electrical design fundamentals, in accordance with applicable international standards and company specifications, senior-level technical decision-making, and mentorship of junior engineers, with the ability to provide hands-on support during shop fabrication and in the field, including direct client interaction during commissioning and after-sales service.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and review of one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, conduit/cable tray installation drawings, and hazardous area classification layouts.

• Perform and validate electrical load calculations, conductor sizing, voltage drop, short circuit, and protective device coordination studies, including review of calculations prepared by junior engineers or sub-contractors.

• Specify and select electrical equipment (transformers, MCCs, VFDs, motor starters, lighting, grounding systems) in accordance with client requirements and applicable standards (NEC, IEEE, NEMA, API RP 500/505).

• Prepare and approve technical specifications, equipment data sheets, and bid packages for electrical equipment and materials.

• Develop and validate hazardous area classifications (Class I Div. 1/2, Zone 1/2) per NEC Articles 500-505, ensuring all specified components meet the required classification.

• Review and approve vendor drawings for conformance with project specifications.

• Serve as the senior technical reference for complex electrical design questions within the team.

• Provide direct technical support to the shop during fabrication, wiring, and testing of skid-mounted electrical systems.

• Resolve field deviations and coordinate engineering changes (redlines/as-builts) during construction.

• Lead or participate in point-to-point checks, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and continuity/insulation verification prior to shipment.

• Coordinate with the instrumentation, mechanical/piping, and structural teams to ensure proper integration of electrical systems within the skid.

• Provide on-site technical support during installation, commissioning, and start-up of supplied electrical systems.

• Diagnose and resolve complex field electrical issues (troubleshooting) on installed and operating equipment.

• Document field findings and provide feedback to the engineering team for continuous improvement of future designs.

• Train client personnel and junior team engineers on the operation and maintenance of supplied electrical systems.

• Review installation procedures, alignment methods, and start-up protocols.

• Interface with vendors and multidisciplinary teams (process, mechanical, piping, instrumentation and controls, rotating equipment, operations and maintenance teams).

• Develop and update internal specifications, guidelines, engineering standards and best practices related to rotating equipment.

• Maintain technical documentation and lessons learned from equipment operation and failures.

• Provide technical training and mentorship to junior engineers and maintenance staff.

• Issue BOMs and work instruction releases.

• Communicate effectively and consistently with internal and external clients.
