Job description

Paving Machine Operator
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Paving Machine Operator to join our paving crew. The ideal candidate will have experience operating a variety of asphalt paving equipment and be committed to producing high-quality work while maintaining a safe and efficient job site. This position requires versatility, attention to detail, and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced construction environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Safely and efficiently operate various asphalt paving equipment, including:
    • Asphalt Paver
    • Screed
    • Asphalt Roller
    • Power Broom
    • Milling Machine
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance or repair needs promptly.
  • Maintain proper paving grade, slope, and mat quality while following project specifications.
  • Coordinate with foremen, truck drivers, and other crew members to ensure efficient paving operations.
  • Assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and general job site preparation.
  • Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and traffic control procedures.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
  • Assist with other construction-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating asphalt paving equipment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience operating multiple pieces of paving equipment, including pavers, screeds, rollers, brooms, and milling machines.
  • Ability to recognize paving inconsistencies and make necessary adjustments for quality workmanship.
  • Knowledge of asphalt paving methods, materials, and construction practices.
  • Ability to read and understand grade stakes, paving plans, and project specifications is preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Climb on and off heavy equipment throughout the workday.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends, when required.
  • Tolerate exposure to heat, dust, asphalt fumes, noise, and changing weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience on DOT, municipal, commercial, and private paving projects.
  • Experience with GPS or automated grade control systems.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
