Area Manager - Aggregates
The Area Manager leads multiple quarry operations within a defined region, typically producing 1M+ tons annually. This role focuses on developing plant leaders, driving operational consistency, and aligning operations with sales and construction to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality results.
We're looking for a people-first leader who builds strong teams, takes ownership of performance, and approaches challenges with a thoughtful, solutions-oriented mindset.
This position is based in Birmingham, AL and will report to the Division Vice President - Aggregates.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, coach, and develop plant managers, building a culture of accountability and growth
  • Ensure safe, consistent, and efficient operations across multiple sites
  • Drive cost performance and support budgeting and financial accountability
  • Partner with sales and construction teams to align production with demand
  • Maintain high standards for quality, process control, and continuous improvement
  • Improve equipment reliability through strong maintenance practices
  • Support and execute capital projects that enhance operational performance

Requirements:
  • 5-10+ years of experience in aggregates, mining, asphalt, or heavy civil operations
  • Proven leadership experience managing multiple teams or sites
  • Strong understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, plant operations, production processes, and cost drivers
  • Demonstrated ability to develop people, build teams, and drive performance
  • Experience with budgeting, financial performance, and operational planning
  • Ability to think critically and develop creative, practical solutions to operational challenges
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across departments
  • Willingness to travel regularly between plant locations

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Experience working cross-functionally with sales and construction teams
  • Background in continuous improvement or operational excellence initiatives
