Utilizes American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate with and interpret for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals. In the linguistic preference of each participant, provides career development services for people with disabilities by performing the following duties: assessment, job exploration, work readiness, self-advocacy training, work-based learning, post-secondary educational counseling, internships, job seeking, job matching, and job coaching supports. Employment Counselors are a liaison between the employer and worker with a disability in all industries. May provide educational assistance and advocacy regarding appropriate accommodations, cultural adjustments, accessibility, and communication in the workplace.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Or 1 year of experience in a similar capacity or equivalent combination of education and experience working with people with disabilities.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must maintain proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting skills at a level assessed by Jawonio Program Management. Completion of an ASL Interpreting Program preferable.
  • Daily access to an automobile is required. A valid NY State Driver's License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
  • Remain current in all OPWDD, OMH, ACCES-VR, and agency-required training.
  • Candidates must be cleared and maintain acceptable records under the NYS OPWDD and OMH mandated criminal background check process.
  • Must be clear and maintain an acceptable record under the Medicaid Fraud & Abuse clearance process.
