Research Assistant
Asia Program
The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a global network of policy research centers, is seeking a part-time research assistant to support the work of the Fellow for Korea Studies in the Asia Program. The position will work approximately 5-10 hours per week. The position is part-time and is anticipated to last approximately six to nine months.
The research assistant will support research on South Korea's domestic politics, foreign policy, and regional affairs, with particular attention to industrial and technology policy and geopolitics. Responsibilities will include conducting qualitative research, compiling and organizing data, assisting with expert interviews and meetings, and providing other research and administrative support as needed.
Candidates should hold at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, with the ability to perform interdisciplinary research and analysis. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a graduate program in political science, international affairs, public policy, Korean studies, or a related field. Native or near-native language proficiency in English and Korean is required, with reading knowledge of Japanese or Chinese considered a plus. Familiarity with South Korea's foreign policy or political economy would be an asset.
Applicants must be self-starters with excellent attention to detail, be able to work independently, adapt quickly, possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and be able to start quickly. The selected candidate will be paid approximately $26-30 per hour depending on experience and level of education. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
To apply, please submit an English resume/C.V. and a five- to ten-page analytical writing sample on a political or social topic through the Carnegie Endowment website. The sample should demonstrate your ability to develop a clear argument, engage critically with relevant primary and secondary sources, assess the credibility and limitations of those sources, and use consistent footnotes and citations.
Equal employment opportunity.
