IRC Background:

Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict.One aspect of the IRC is to provide assistance to refugees resettling in the United States.The IRC opened an office in Phoenix, Arizona in 1994 to provide reception and placement services to newly arrived refugees.The office resettles refugees and provides numerous program services to assist refugees from their arrival through citizenship.

Job Overview:

The Safety & Wellness Coordinator (ASF, DEPTH & VOCA) collaborates with casework staff to assess client needs, support outreach efforts, and connect individuals to community-based resources. This role builds internal and external partnerships to strengthen IRC's Safety & Wellness programs across Arizona.

Major Responsibilities:

  • DEPTH Research Project:

    • Identify participants, coordinate outreach, conduct surveys and interviews, and manage participant care.

    • Provide direct support and services to participants.

    • Complete required CITI research training.

  • VOCA Program:

    • Support enrollment for asylum seekers based on arrival patterns.

    • Maintain case files and enter program data.

    • Provide client support in coordination with the VOCA team.

  • Asylum Support:

    • Deliver trauma-informed, client-centered services to asylum seekers.

    • Assess needs, connect clients to services, and develop referral plans aligned with program eligibility.

    • Provide light-touch case support, including assessments, crisis support, and referrals for additional resources.

  • Community Engagement & Outreach:

    • Maintain relationships with law enforcement and other key agencies.

    • Develop strategies to identify and refer victims of crime.

    • Lead outreach and training efforts to meet program goals.

    • Coordinate data collection, evaluation, and compliance reporting.

    • Collaborate with IRC staff to finalize quarterly and semi-annual reports.

    • Represent IRC in coalitions, task forces, and partner networks.

  • Program & Team Support:

    • Recruit and supervise volunteers/interns as needed.

    • Participate in donor meetings, staff development, and team activities.

    • Follow all IRC policies and procedures.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degreein Social Work, Human Services or similar fieldstrongly preferred; comparable related work experience may be substituted.

Work Experience:

  • 2+ years of related work experience; 1-year minimum working with asylum seekers, victims of crime orother vulnerable populations.

  • In-depth knowledge of asylum issues, trends, laws, and regulations and understanding of victim perspective and needs

  • Case management and/or victims assistance experience preferred

  • Experience conducting training and outreach to diverse audiences

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.

  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.

  • Excellent written and spoken English skills

  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented

  • Excellent writing and analytical skills

  • Public Speaking and/or presentation experience preferred

  • Ability to effectively communicate and work as a team member with collaborative partners, the community, and clients in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment

  • Computer literacy, data base experience preferred

  • Ability to work independently and be a flexible team player

Language Skills:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish. Cross-cultural understanding and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Certificates or Licenses:

  • Must have a valid driver's license, active insurance policy, access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area.

  • In accordance with Arizona State Law, must possess or be eligible to receive a fingerprint clearance card.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and 'field' time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.

  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

  • Must be able to lift 35 to 50 pounds (furniture, household supplies, and food boxes).

This position is expected to end on September 9, 2026.

Compensation: (Pay Rate: $26.78/hr). Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

This is a short-term role with an anticipated end date of September 30, 2026, and is not eligible for IRC's full benefits package.

U.S. Benefits for ShortTerm Employees: Shortterm roles are not eligible for IRC's full benefits package. However, U.S.based shortterm employees are eligible for a 403(b) retirement savings plan with employer match (immediate vesting) along with a non-elective employer contribution based on age and years of service (3-year vesting), paid sick leave in accordance with policy, and access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which provides confidential counseling and mental health support for employees and their families.
