Job description

Job Title: Food Service Assistant
Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction (ACAGJ)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Headmaster
Work Hours/Days: M-F, Typical School days, and professional development days per worksite calendar approximately 25 hrs a week
Essential Functions:
Supervision:
  • Monitor students during lunch and recess to ensure their safety and appropriate behavior
  • Enforce school rules and policies to maintain a respectful and orderly environment
  • Address any behavioral issues promptly and report them to the appropriate school staff

Student Interaction:
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere where all students feel safe and respected
  • Encourage positive social interactions among students and help mediate conflicts when necessary
  • Assist students with any needs or issues that arise during breakfast, lunch and recess

Safety and First Aid:
  • Ensure all playground and cafeteria areas are safe and free of hazards
  • Provide basic first aid when necessary and report any injuries to school administration
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies in accordance with school policies and procedures

Cleanliness and Organization:
  • Assist in the setup and cleanup of the cafeteria before and after meal periods
  • Encourage students to clean up after themselves and maintain cleanliness in eating and play areas
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the school administration

Communication:
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents as needed
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required
  • Collaborate with other aides and school personnel to ensure a cohesive and supportive environment
  • Maintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners

Position Requirements:
  • Loyalty to Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc.'s (ACACS) mission and vision
  • Assists staff and volunteers in inventory control.
  • Serves food per breakfast and lunch guidelines.
  • Supports the tracking of students participating in the breakfast and lunch program.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing the multi purpose room.
  • Supports teachers and staff in maintaining an orderly lunch room environment.
  • Commitment to model moral character in line with the school's core virtues
  • Adherence to all ACACS policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students and colleagues
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Complete all required training and provide documentation
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to traverse the classroom and the school
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or standing
  • Must be able to supervise outdoor recess
