Job description

Role Overview

The Welder II - III Weekend Shift is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and welding structural steel components, fuel tanks, frames, and related assemblies used in ASC's power integration solutions. This position plays a critical role in delivering high-quality products by performing welding operations in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

The ideal candidate possesses strong welding skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and craftsmanship. Success in this role will be measured through weld quality, productivity, safety performance, adherence to specifications, and overall contribution to manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and lay out work using material handling equipment and manual layout methods to fabricate or rework finished products
  • Perform MIG welding on structural components, including I-beams, frames, fuel tanks, and related assemblies in flat, vertical, and overhead positions
  • Operate hand-held finishing tools including grinders, sanders, wire wheels, and other fabrication equipment
  • Clamp, position, tack weld, drill, mill, tap, cut, and assemble components to achieve required fit-up and weld configurations
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication and weld quality
  • Inspect welds throughout the fabrication process and perform rework as necessary to meet quality standards
  • Conduct visual inspections of products, tools, and equipment to identify defects, malfunctions, or nonconforming conditions
  • Change welding wire, shielding gas, and consumables as needed to maintain weld quality and equipment performance
  • Ensure welding equipment is set up, maintained, and operated safely at all times
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspection of welding machines and related equipment, reporting maintenance needs when identified
  • Support fuel tank pressure testing activities and perform required repairs or modifications when necessary
  • Meet established productivity, quality, and schedule requirements
  • Accurately record labor hours and work completed through company reporting systems or timesheets
  • Report material, quality, safety, and production concerns to supervisors in a timely manner
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and waste reduction
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company standards

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience in MIG welding within a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment
  • Ability to weld structural steel and fabricated assemblies to print and specification requirements
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, equipment, and fabrication techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, shop drawings, and work instructions
  • Experience using fabrication tools, grinders, measurement devices, and other shop equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship
  • Basic mathematical skills and proficiency using measurement tools
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks while maintaining quality and productivity standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to cross-train and support other manufacturing functions as needed
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Commitment to workplace safety, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement

Required Education & Training

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • MIG Welding Certification preferred
  • TIG Welding Certification preferred but not required
  • Vocational welding training or formal welding education preferred
  • Additional welding qualifications or industry certifications are a plus
  • Experience requirements may vary based on demonstrated welding proficiency and skill assessment

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in manufacturing environments for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform welding in various positions, including flat, vertical, and overhead
  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to noise, heat, sparks, dust, and welding fumes while utilizing required PPE
  • Ability to safely operate welding, grinding, and fabrication equipment
  • Ability to work overtime and support production schedules as required
Ability to work in both fabrication and assembly environments
