Director of Marketing

Breakaway

Charlotte, NC โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Posted 6 days ago

Job description

WHO WE ARE

Breakaway is the nation's leading independent live entertainment brand, operating as a dynamic flywheel spanning live music, artist services, event management and operations, and digital media. Its tentpole touring music festivals deliver premium experiences to underserved music fans across the country. Since its inception, the festival has expanded into multiple cities and grown into a two-day, multi-stage event in every market. The brand champions accessibility, music, art, creativity, and community. Breakaway also creates cultural moments through "Breakaway Presents," a series of pop-up events in markets such as Miami and Las Vegas. The company remains dedicated to discovering and amplifying the 'next big thing' in music through its record label and artist-management division, Breakaway Projects.

THE ROLE

We're looking for a driven, creative, and highly strategic Director of Marketing to lead a growing division of the marketing function at Breakaway. This is a high-impact role responsible for developing and executing campaigns that drive ticket sales across festivals, pop-ups, and concerts, elevate our brand, and deepen our connection with fans nationwide.

In this role, you'll own the end-to-end digital and out-of-home marketing strategy, from campaign development and paid media to creative, PR, and executive reporting. You'll partner closely with our organic social, influencer, and artist marketing teams to deliver full-scale campaigns that drive ticket sales and elevate our brand. You'll lead and grow a high-performing team while partnering cross-functionally with ticketing, sponsorship, operations, and artist relations to bring each festival to life. This role requires someone who can think big while staying hands-on, equally comfortable building strategy decks and being in the weeds on briefing and overseeing creative deliverables, executing in a fast-paced festival environment.

The ideal candidate brings 7-10 years of marketing experience, preferably within live events, music, or entertainment, along with a proven track record of building campaigns that convert. You're a strong leader who knows how to move quickly, make data-driven decisions, and build teams that deliver at scale.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

Strategy & Campaigns

  • Develop and execute integrated, multi-channel marketing strategies, digital, paid social, email, PR, content, media buys, out of home,ย  and partnerships, to drive ticket sales and brand growth
  • Oversee national and market-level campaigns for all festivals and branded events, ensuring creative, sponsorship, and ticketing teams are aligned and moving in the same direction
  • Analyze ticketing data, audience insights, and engagement metrics to continuously optimize campaigns and inform future strategy
  • Stay ahead of cultural, digital, and experiential trends to keep Breakaway's marketing fresh, relevant, and ahead of the curve
  • Own a significant portion of the marketing budget, allocate resources strategically across channels and track ROI to ensure every dollar drives results

Graphic Design & Creative

  • Direct the in-house graphic design category, setting the creative bar for all visual output across digital, print, OOH, and on-site experiential formats, across festivals and all other Breakaway properties and verticals
  • Ensure brand identity, visual language, and messaging remain consistent and compelling across every platform, channel, and market
  • Partner with creative and artist relations teams to translate lineup announcements, activations, and sponsor integrations into high-impact creative

Paid Media

  • Own paid media strategy and execution across social (Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, Google, etc.), search, display, and programmatic channels
  • Manage agency and vendor relationships; optimize spend allocation to maximize ROAS and ticket sales performance
  • Negotiate media buys, advertising placements, and cross-promotional deals

PR & Earned Media

  • Oversee all Public Relations initiatives, direct our manager of PR for all earned media efforts, press releases, media outreach, editorial calendar, and journalist relationships
  • Leverage existing and new media relationships to drive coverage that amplifies Breakaway's brand nationally and in key markets
  • Travel to and serve as the on-site lead for all marketing initiatives for select festivals and events in collaboration with other team marketing leaders
  • Support as on-site marketing lead at festivals, managing media credentialing, press activations, and real-time content opportunities

Leadership & Reporting

  • Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing marketing team across graphic design, paid media, PR, and general marketing, fostering accountability, creativity, and collaboration
  • Prepare and present marketing strategy, campaign performance, and audience insights to the CEO, President, and VP on a regular cadence
  • Partner with the sponsorship team to authentically integrate sponsor deliverables into campaigns in ways that add value for fans and partners alike

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7-10+ years of progressive marketing experience, ideally in live events, festivals, or entertainment
  • 3+ years of management experience leading multi-disciplinary teams (marketing, graphic design, paid media, PR) in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven track record of driving ticket sales and engagement through integrated campaigns
  • Deep expertise in digital marketing, social media, content strategy, email marketing, web marketing, and paid media

  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills
  • Data-driven with strong analytical and reporting capabilities
  • Comfortable working in high-pressure environments with tight deadlines and peak event seasons
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work nights/weekends/holidays during the festival period.
  • Bonus: Existing relationships with media outlets, agencies, influencers, and partners in the music/live entertainment industry
