Job description

SCENIC ARTIST / PAINTER
Reports to: Paint Shop Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES
Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Execute artistic treatment of scenic elements in accordance with design specifications and paint elevations.
  • Perform base coats, texture, faux finishes, aging, graphics, and detail work on scenic elements as assigned.
  • Work within paint timelines established by the Paint Shop Supervisor and coordinate daily task progress with the Supervisor.
  • Participate as a collaborative member of the build staff specializing in scenic artistry.
  • Mix, match, and document paint colors; maintain accurate records of formulas and coverage.
  • Maintain Paint Shop tools, equipment, and workspace in good working order; report inventory needs and equipment issues to the Paint Shop Supervisor.
  • Complete tasks as assigned by the Paint Shop Supervisor in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Assist other shop departments as needed, including other Production Departments with Load In/Out.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment at all times by adhering to Hale Centre Theatre policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Must be able to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of scenic painting techniques and application methods.
  • Working knowledge of texturing techniques.
  • Must be competent in reading detailed paint elevation drawings.
  • Must be able to work independently and take direction well within a team environment.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills.
  • Must be able to work weekdays and occasional weekends.
  • Experience with scissor lifts preferred; training provided.
  • Experience with basic projection technology for paint layout preferred.
  • Possess a strong desire to hone existing skills and a willingness to learn new ones.
  • Be highly resourceful and possess efficient problem solving and time management skills.
  • Successful candidates are required to pass a background check and drug screening prior to beginning work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, crouch, and bend for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work at height from scissor lifts and ladders.
  • Must be able to work on painted floor surfaces and reach overhead as required.
