Job Summary Make an impact: The City of Salem Enterprise Services Department is seeking a talented and dynamic Artificial Intelligence (AI) Developer. Our application development teams are dedicated to solving real-world challenges and creating innovative solutions that directly benefit City of Salem staff and our Salem community. This position is eligible for remote work under the City's Remote Work Policy. What you will do: As an AI Developer, you will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of AI-driven applications. Your responsibilities will include implementation, configuration, integration, and enhancement of AI solutions, directly contributing to the optimization of City service delivery and the streamlining of core operational and administrative workflows.

You will collaborate extensively with diverse stakeholders, including City departments staff, Enterprise Services technical staff, and external vendors, to ensure successful and timely delivery of projects and solutions. In addition to AI application and interface development, you will configure, design, and administer AI solutions based on industry best practices. You will analyze business use cases and modeling system interface requirements to ensure alignment with operational needs.

You will also use a variety of tools to develop and generate data presentation solutions for enhancing City decision-making processes. Position schedule is Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Our team follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office (295 Church Street, SE, Suite 210, Salem, OR 97301), as needed, based on demands of specific tasks and manager approval

Must have an Oregon Driver license and have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards. Must pass criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System clearance and Law Enforcement Data System certification within 30 days of hire (clearance must be maintained throughout employment). A bachelor's degree in computer science, technology, information systems or software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, business or a related field, and five years of professional level information technology experience including business process analysis, application design and computer programming using languages typical to the position, along with project management for small to medium sized projects, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (Not required to apply): Preferred qualifications include: understanding the principles and practices of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications programming, implementation of solutions based on ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, experience developing AI solutions, familiarity with AI integration tools and methods, methods and techniques of project management, troubleshooting and problem resolution of AI applications, application design and development tools, and computer languages and programming best practices typical to the AI environment.
