AI Developers often collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to integrate AI technologies into products and services.

What is the difference between Artificial Intelligence Developer vs Data Scientist?

AspectArtificial Intelligence DeveloperData Scientist
Required CredentialsBachelor's or master's in CS, AI, or related fields; programming skills in Python, JavaBachelor's or master's in CS, Statistics, or related fields; strong programming and statistical skills
Work EnvironmentDevelops AI models, algorithms, and applications; often in tech companies or R&D labsAnalyzes data, builds models, and provides insights; in tech, finance, healthcare sectors
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by tech firms, startups, research institutions focusing on AI solutionsUsed across industries for data analysis, predictive modeling, and decision support

While both roles require programming and a strong understanding of data, Artificial Intelligence Developers focus on creating AI systems and algorithms, whereas Data Scientists analyze data to generate insights and build predictive models. Both roles often collaborate but serve different primary functions within tech and data-driven organizations.

Which 3 jobs will survive AI?

Artificial Intelligence Developers are likely to continue thriving as they design, implement, and improve AI systems, requiring skills in programming, machine learning, and data analysis. Other resilient roles include healthcare professionals, such as doctors and nurses, who rely on human judgment and empathy, and skilled tradespeople like electricians and plumbers, whose work depends on physical skills and on-site problem solving. These jobs involve complex human interaction or physical tasks that AI cannot easily replicate.

Senior Engineer- Artificial Intelligence

Tucows Domains

Calgary, AB • Remote

CA$120K - CA$145K/yr

Full-time

Posted 19 days ago

Job description

Tucows Domains is the world's largest wholesale domain registrar, responsible for maintaining the health, neutrality, and openness of an important—but largely invisible part of the Internet: the domain name system (DNS).

As part of Tucows—one of the world's largest Internet companies—Tucows Domains has a rich history of helping make the Internet better, operating globally under the Ascio, Enom, Hover and OpenSRS brands.

We embrace a people-first philosophy that is rooted in respect, trust, and flexibility. We believe that whatever works for our employees is what works best for us. It's also why the majority of our roles are remote-first, meaning you can work from anywhere you can connect to the Internet! Today, over one thousand people from over 20 countries are part of our team.

If this sounds exciting to you, join the herd!

About the Opportunity

At Tucows, we have spent three decades building the software and infrastructure that keeps the internet running. We believe in an internet that is open, reliable, and simple. As we integrate Artificial Intelligence into our ecosystem, we aren't looking for superficial implementations; we are looking to build robust, agentic systems that fundamentally improve how millions of users manage their digital identities and connectivity.

We are seeking a Senior AI Engineer to join a dedicated team of engineers building the next generation of intelligent agents that help scale our business. You will bridge the gap between cutting-edge LLM research and production-grade software engineering, leading the development of systems that automate complex tasks with the same reliability our infrastructure is known for.

This is a remote opportunity for applicants in Canada or USA.

What You'll Do
  • System Architecture: Design and implement scalable AI-driven features with a focus on multi-agent systems and advanced RAG architectures.
  • Production Excellence: Move beyond the prototype. You will own the full lifecycle of AI services, from model selection and deployment to monitoring in a Kubernetes environment
  • Polyglot Engineering: Write clean, maintainable code primarily in Python, while collaborating on core infrastructure services written in Go.
  • Ethical AI Leadership: Establish clear standards for data privacy, model bias, and security, including practices like model cards, red-teaming protocols, and privacy impact assessments, ensuring our AI initiatives remain transparent and aligned with our commitment to user trust.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Experience: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of shipping production-ready applications.
  • AI Specialization: Demonstrated expertise working with Large Language Models (LLMs) and agentic frameworks, with a solid understanding of how to apply them to real-world production systems.
  • Technical Stack: Advanced proficiency in Python is required. Hands-on experience with Go, or a demonstrated ability to ramp quickly in a Go-heavy environment, is strongly preferred.
  • Infrastructure Knowledge: Familiarity with modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD, Docker, and cloud-based inference pipelines on AWS.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex AI concepts into clear, actionable language for both technical and non-technical audiences. You are comfortable leading discussions, influencing decisions, and mentoring engineers at all levels, making communication as much a part of your craft as the code you write.

The base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $145,000 USD for US residents OR $126,090 to $140,100 CAD for Canadian residents. Other countries will differ. Range may vary on a number of factors including, but not limited to: location, experience and qualifications.
